Yet another reason to love England

1649 AD England's Oliver Cromwell lands in Ireland; his mission was to dispel the Native threat to the advancement of the English Empire, He ruthlessly leads armies and sanctions them to kill all 'under the name of god'. Native clans in many areas where wiped out, Millions more where ruthlessly slaughtered in a cold blood massacre, in particular areas of Drogheda and Wexford. Sets expeditions too to kill every wolf and to deforest Ireland.

1650 AD Native Irish Catholic land owners are banished from their own lands in Ulster and exiled to the kingdom of Connaught effectively making way for Plantation of British people. Because of this, great numbers in Connaught today are of Ulster Lineage.

1653 AD Cromwell's subjugation of Ireland is declared complete. Native Irish landowners evicted and land handed over to planted British Protestant settlers.

1656 AD More than 60,000 Native Irish Catholics had been sent as slaves to Barbados, and other islands of the Caribbean.

1672 AD Over 6,000 Native Irish boys and women sold as slaves since England gained control of Jamaica.

i dont' know if you're joking or not...or if you're really using this as cynical criticism...but i have a hard time judging people for events that occurred roughly 500 years ago.

among places in the world, cultures and civilizations you can do a lot worse than england.

I use to live in England for 3 years...Lowestaff area and also Grayamouth (I was a widdy toddlar, came back to U.S. when I was 5, almost 6)...Also lived in Cork, Ireland for 1 year...I loved the scenery best in Cork, beautiful and chock full of greenery...(although, we lived in a haunted house there.)

texas was...but it was a part of another country before, right??

wyoming was a country to the indians who lived there, right?? if not wyoming, pick your state where we trampled over native americans and called it our own...even after acknowledging it was wrong, we haven't pulled out and said, "yeah...it's not part of the US..we were just wrong there!"

Max, how did America start? Answer: British colonies. The Brits invaded America as well as Ireland. They brought slaves from Africa, Ireland..etc. to help build their new country.

And they're all dead now. The slave traders, the slave owners, AND the slaves.

    All dead.

    For generations now.

i did, indeed! :) fun song!

i'm with you pole...the guilty have been dead for generations. if an event happened in the last century, it's still relevant...but when you're going back 500 years, it's a bit stale.

Whoa! I go away with this thread being about Benny Hill, and I come back to find my nation still being blamed for actions that took place 500 years ago.

I'd like to apologise for my nation's actions now.

these are some images I created for a british message board that would continually dog and belittle the U.S. for the 9/11 bombings... I finally got fed up and created these.

Your nation's actions started 500 years ago and they just keep on giving:(

I accept your apologies, however I'm not sure certain people in Ireland ever will.

come on!!! who the hell is free of blame for the past 500 years??? who among the "civilized" cultures of the world doesn't have a history of things they regret??? you're applying an impossible standard. man, in general, is fallen and broken...individually and collectively we've all done things we regret.

geez, if you're this hard on the english, i can't imagine how hard you are on the germans!
