I noticed the love Siamese Dream received in the Best CD thread, so that made me wonder. What are your top 5 Smashing Pumpkins songs. 5. Drown 4. Pennies 3. Behold the Nightmare 2. Mayonaise 1. Stand Inside Your Love.
Hadn't listened to them in awhile but there was a time where they were one of my favorites - I'll go with these 5: 1 - Tonight, Tonight 2 - Disarm 3 - Whir 4 - Drown 5 - Today
Of course Siamese Dream would get that kind of respect, because Siamese Dream is a really, really good album. My two favorite songs are on that album: Spaceboy, Mayonaise. As far as a "top 5", I can't say I have one, nor have I thought about it before, really... As utterly cliche as it is, Bullet with Butterfly Wings is the song that got me into them originally, and so I have a sentimental place in my heart for that song.
Daphne Descends Perfect Raindrops + Sunshowers I of the Mourning (listen to any live version you can find) Today
Just watched the documentary "If All Goes Wrong" a few weeks ago, so I've been on a bit of a Pumpkins kick for the first time in a while. The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left Looks Right) Thirty-Three Perfect Zero Mayonaise Adore is my favorite album overall.
Being a die hard SP fan when I was younger I had no idea this existed! I've got to check this out. Stumbled across their interview on Chris Issak's show at least. Obscured Hummer 1979 Set the Ray to Jerry Zero I wish they pursued more of the 'cyber metal' sound Billy described with Zero.
I've always felt it is one of the most complete albums ever. Anyways yeah BWBW got me into them. Billy's voice always annoyed me when I first listened to them but their heavy stuff slowly hooked me. After that I fell in love with his emotion. Now they are my favorite band of all time... although if Silversun Pickups next album is on the same level as their last, SP will have some competition.
Haha first time I heard Kissing Families I thought it was a Siamese Dream B-side I never heard. Anyways awesome choice on never let me down I use to jam that all the time when I was buzzin.
1.1979 2.Here is No Why 3.Today 4.Soma 5.Bullet With Butterfly Wings The Whole First Disc of Mellon Collie is a masterpiece. The second disc save a couple songs, my favorite song actually being one of them, doesn't hold up as well IMO. Gish might be their best whole Album, no standout songs, but a CD you can listen clean through.
This. There are several I like on the Mashed Potatoes collection. Covers mostly. The acoustic version of "Blue" is really good too.
Mayonaise is by far my favorite. Coming up with a list after that is pretty difficult. Off the top of my head I would say: 1979 Drown Tonight, Tonight Thirty-Three
Too hard. I haven't listened to Smashing Pumpkins in so long I've probably forgotten a ton of songs. If I had to guess I'd say: By Starlight 33 Geek USA - that dream-like, trippy transition from loud noise to whispers just speaks to me I don't think I can separate a lot of the rest. But those 3 I always love.
Absolutely. One of my favorite things about the Pumpkins and Billy's writing. Listen to this song by Zwan (Billy with Jimmy on drums). It has everything you love about the Pumpkins in one epic 14-minute song. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Fo1DVYWFTVc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> And yeah, I agree about Silversun Pickups. I'm late to the party, as usual, but I'm really loving this band.
