Football is a totally different beast than basketball.. One player unless you are the QB can't have the type of impact on a game. If Dat Nguyen was a undrafted QB and turned a team around and started winning . trust me he's get a crapload of coverage.. See Tebow.

Otherwise you are jsut a pawn on a team in most cases

Where would Lin be if Yao had been a bust?

Yao basically set up Asia, especially china, to embrace the next asian players.
You need an asian player who's a big star to do the same, otherwise the others slip through the cracks.

It's not only that. NFL football isn't popular in China, however NBA basketball is huge there.

    This is completely different situation.

Dat wasn't that good of line backer and it's not a glamor position like QB or Wideout.

The only linebackers who get any fame are the ones who are really good, if you are a casual NFL fan, can you name the good linebackers now besides Ray Lewis?

Lin is winning games by his play and his story is more compelling as an underdog. Dat played for A&M, which normally sends some players to the NFL.

    Harvard doesn't prodcut NBA players.

Also, nobody in China or Asia likes the NFL. The NFL is pretty American.

2nd Team All-Pro = not good? Dat was good, career just cut short because of injuries.
