What you're conveniently leaving out is Rondo's also playing with Ray Allen, KG & Paul Pierce. When you have 3 HOF's in your starting lineup, those driving lanes magically seem to open up. The question is can Rondo put Lowry's numbers playing with Parson's, Dally & Scola? Hell no
I here a lot of people saying that Lowry is a better offensive option but I don't know about that. Lowry is much much better from behind the arc but Rondo is hitting almost 50% of his shots and only scoring almost as many ppg as Lowry. I think both are about the same in scoring efficiency though with Rondo having a slight advantage but both score almost the same number of points on almost the same number of field goal attempts. - Lowry has the slight advantage in steals and rebounds. - Rondo has the advantage in assists per game - Lowry protects the ball better by turning it over less - Rondo is quicker but Lowry is stronger - Both take pride in their defense and are among the better defensive point guards in the league. - Both have shown the ability to hit the clutch shot I certainly don't watch a lot of Rondo but I see almost all of Lowry's games and he is a flat out bulldog playing point. I think both are fine point guards but honestly, I can't say one has a real advantage over the other.
I was talking about the PG position more in regards to potential and ceiling since the topic of the thread was Rondo versus Lowry. Nash and Parker and I would argue Billups and Jason Kidd as well, have all earned the right to be in the discussion of great PGs but these four are all in the declining phase of their careers. So in terms of PG's ascending towards the league's best, Kyrie irving, John Wall and Tyreke Evans all need to be in that different conversation.
I went on Spurstalk to ask this same question and get an unbiased answer, much different than the one we got here. http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191762 DD
Rondo, but I still like Lowry. Gotta give an edge to Rondo though, because he has done it in the postseason when the lights are brightest. Two finals and has killed in the playoffs.
I just don't get what you have against Lowry. I know these forums are on his jock a lot but if you're a Rockets fan you know he's the motor for this team and a big reason we're the 5th/6th seed. Is it because he pushed AB out the league? Weren't you previously banned because you kept trashing K-Mart on SpursTalk too? Are you jaded because you had to admit to everyone you were about Lowry back then? Are you bitter? Do you have this deep seeded resentment where you root for Lowry's downfall and bad performances? Yeah I've noticed your snarky, back-handed compliment type posts about Lowry just so can't get called on your full blown haterism.
I'll go with Rondo probably as a better player now, but for a team he's supposed to be very, very difficult to be around so I'm not sure if he would be good for a rebuilding team around young players. He's also reached his ceiling as a player and his jumpshot and free throw shooting is painful.
I can see where you are coming from, but if someone started a Brooks vs Lowry thread in Spurstalk. Would you still hold the same sentiment that they are "unbiased" depending on the result?
Well the poll represents opinions gathered from non-biased fans....but I admit the way he writes is so annoying it pisses everyone off. Very elitist. Rondo has a better reputation because he has a ring and he's a impressive athlete leading a very famous team in the NBA.
It would have to be: Brooks (MIP year) vs Lowry (this year) And I'm not surprised that Rondo would get more votes outside of Houston, even if Lowry was the better player (and I'm not saying he is). How many national TV games has Lowry played in the last 2 seasons?
I would've been fine with the poll but he put Lowry in a terrible light from the get go and also this is the Spurs forum, who we have an in-state, inner-division rivalry against so it's not completely unbias.
Two years ago, Kyle was a brick manufacturer from 3, he's come back since and has been consistenly in the 37%+ range for a season and a half. Last year, his free throws were erratic, he came back this year and has been shooting 88% He seems to spend large portions of his off season working on his weaknesses to improve himself. Rondo seems to never improve his weaknesses, he just seems to have a low work ethic (that or he simply doesn't know how to do it right and spends large amounts of time that amount to nothing, much like a government worker) and his attitude seems to be one that he doesn't really need to improve on it. The Lowry of last year was not as good as Rondo until the very end of the year, the Lowry of this year has been ever so slightly better than Rondo, the Lowry 4-5 years down the track will likely be a significantly better player.
Precisely. Opportunity wise, Rondo has had much more spotlight (and deserving of it of course), but Lowry has had not near the same amount of publicity. If Lowry and the Rockets were in the east right now, I think it would be a general consensus that Lowry would have gotten an all-star spot.
Nothing at all, I like him, a lot. I just believe he is overated on this BBS. I don't believe he is good enough to lead the team in the playoffs as he doesn't have any skill that is on the plus side, and I believe he will be exposed when he faces better athletes that are playing hard all game long. I do think he could be a championship PG, but only if we have a lot better players around him. DD
When Lowry has played this year, the Rockets are 20-12. When Rondo has played this year, the Celtics are 9-13, and the Celtics play in a weaker conference and have more individual talent than the Rockets do. Whether you like it or not, Rondo's inability to shoot is a huge liability. That's the main reason Boston lost the 2010 finals.
Oh my god I spent like 10 minutes on spurstalk and I am completely dumbfounded. I thought there was dumb threads on here... WOW
