I find it amusing that someone posts that overused and horribly ugly mug shot of Morey for finding late round picks that would be rotational players on an WC Finals team. How about an expectation of doing something more with 3 and 4 year college Lottery picks beyond the D-League? And before your diatribe about tearing up th D-League? Morris is behind Mike James & Morris Almond in scoring and shoots barely 26% from the arc. A player w/o an NBA postion....nice call $Ball
I'm sorry. I forgot your system was flawless and always drafted the best player available. And iirc, Morey used his second first round pick on a guy that had very little information to base his 'money ball' analysis on and has subsequently performed very well in a high level euro league. But I thought you said he doesn't draft guys like that? Not to mention his second round pick was way more nba ready than anyone had anticipated. So he appears to have hit on 2 of 3 picks last year. His team is in playoff contention. We haven't gotten to the trade deadline and the player you are writing off hasn't had a look yet. Ima say we should go ahead and wait before dropping the axe. Morey has been a plus nba gm. No, he is not the best gm evar and yes he has missed some shots and probably toed too safe a line; but he has also been handcuffed by an owner that would never have traded yao and had to be talked into trading tracy (when it was too late) and the same owner who never accepts losing (pushing us into extended mediocrity). he's got a damn tough job and has done a more than acceptable job so far. a far superior job than dawson ever did. if by the end of next season, we are still essentially the same mediocre team that is hanging right around the 8th seed, filled with 'assets' but no better or worse for the wear than we have been over the past several seasons, then it will be time to move in a new direction.
$Ball got us Lowry, Landry, Lull, D-Mo, Brooks, Hayes, Parsons and Patterson, all of whom have vastly outperformed their draft positions. b****ing about Morris being in the d league just makes you look like an idiot. Yeah, let's complain about the one guy who's playing in the dleague and descredit the whole $Ball approach, nevermind if it led to a Dallas championship.
Well patterson's turning out nice, we'v had some great 2nd rounders and morris hasn't played in a real nba game yet so don't be so quick to judge. I will join you if morris gets consistent mins for the next 2 years and doesn't start to show promise.
LOL ... that pic is funny. Also a bit misleading. Thabeet, Flynn, and Hill didn't cost us much (certainly didn't cost us a high lottery pick). They were by-products of deals in which we acquired other, more valuable assets. The Terrence Williams deal was a mistake in hindsight. But he's the sort of player a lot of Morey's critics say he should be more aggressive in going after. And if we end up making the playoffs, he cost us a mid, non-lottery first rounder. So I wouldn't call it a huge, costly mistake.
