A real contender. We're basically a "legit" center away from contention. And Yao was a superstar.

Battier, because he's white. Or Maloney, because he's too black?

you could just as easily ask How good would this team be with Sasquatch since neither one exists.

Not true, Sasquatch exists and the team is 19-14 with him.

With all due respect to the OP,

I'm soooo over the sentences that start with "If Yao" or "If T-Mac were healthy". It just makes me nuts.

To the poster that wanted to put TMac in here, TMac was traded for KMart. We wouldn't have KMart if TMac was still here. But Yao wasn't traded. He retired outright. So, in essense if Yao was healthy, he'd be playing the middle for this team, we wouldn't have Dally, but we would have most likely re-signed Hayes to back up Yao. And even if we still had flipped Hayes for Dally, we'd still be right there.

A couple points I want to make:

    1. Injury, NOT MOREY, has cost this team, big time! For all you Morey haters out there, if you can't see how good we would be with a healthy Yao, then you don't know basketball. Morey is a top quality NBA GM.

    2. If Dwight could only see our team in this light and just sign outright here in the offseason and play with all the veterans we currently have, all the good youngsters with potential that we have (Parsons, Morris, Patterson, Lee, Dragic), all the shooters he would need, all the pesky perimeter defenders he could want, all the bigs he could want to play alongside of, and a good young PG with plenty of guts, brains, and balls to get him the ball and be there in crunch time for the remainder of his career.

It is silly to think that our team with Dwight would not have a better chance to win a championship next season than New Jersey with Dwight and Deron, Marshon Brooks, and garbage. No sales tax here. And Dwight would be the single big enchilada in the whole stinking state. What endorsements is Dwight going to get sharing time with Melo, Amare, Deron, and now Lin??? Is that market divided up amongst other superstars going to be superior to our market??? I don't see it.

The Rockets should be the single team that Dwight and Deron set their sights on for 2012-13 if they want to win championships and be in the Finals year after year. All the pieces are already here.

Couldn't agree more, but if we trade everyone away to get him, then he is in worse shape. He just needs to sign, he is the next Hakeem, well close anyway. He and Williams here with our supporting cast, instant contenders. I just don't see it in NJ.

Too good. We are basically a Kaman away from competing for home court in the playoffs.

Who knows? A healthy Yao never translated to finishing the season even if he was completely healthy. The trend was even if healthy he would get injured during or before the playoffs and we would lose again at some point.

This and much more. But why even bring this up. It's so sad thinking about what could have been. It still haunts me every once in a while how we could have beat the fakers if only Yao was there. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I'll take even a 50/50 Yao, as long as we get him back sometime after the all-star break and he stays healthy for a playoff run. Ah, if only he didn't get hurt, we may not have won the chip, but we could have prevented a Laker Championship.

Where would this team be if lightsabers were allowed to defend the rim?
