Comparison of their last 8 games (from the Net's game since this is when Lin started getting real minutes). I'm aware it's still a small sample size and Lin's numbers will probably change when Carmelo comes back but at the moment when they play 20+ minutes, they're producing similar numbers. Lin has more assists, while Westbrook has more rebounds, but everything else is very close (yes, even including turnovers.) Lin: 197 pts (24.63 pts/game), Westbrook: 198 pts (24.75 pts/game) Lin: 71-141 fga (50%), Westbrook: 79-155 fga (51%) Lin: 48-66 fta (73%), Westbrook: 35-43 fta (81%) Lin: 7-24 3fga (29%), Westbrook: 5-22 3fga (23%) Lin: 69 asts (8.63 asts/game), Westbrook: 36 asts (4.50 asts/game) Lin: 46 tos (5.75 to/game), Westbrook: 41 tos (5.13 to/game) Lin: 30 rbs (3.75 rbs/game), Westbrook: 46 rbs (5.75 rbs/game) Lin: 15 stls (1.88 stls/game), Westbrook: 14 stls (1.75 stls/game) Lin: 1 blk (.13 blks/game), Westbrook: 3 blks (.34 blks/game)
I am a big Westbrick hater, but Jeremy Lin is the most overrated player in the NBA right now. He is playing out of his mind, at an unsustainable level. Westbrick is a world class chucker and scoring PG; Lin will cool down and become an average PG with turnover problems.
Or that in thier past 8 games, their production has been eerily similar. Though I agree, this point could've just been made in the main Jeremy Lin thread.
To be fair the main Jeremy Lin thread turned from "breakout Jeremy Lin" to "gmoney vs the world," and now into a "Asian Awareness" thread. So a new thread is understandable. I find it ironic that even though their numbers are quite similar over the past 8 games, the same people that regard Westbrook as a knucklehead consistently say Lin is a smart player who makes great decisions.
The difference is Lin has been forced to score with Amare and Melo out and he's still doing it efficiently for the most part. Most of his turnovers come because he's trying too hard to make the pass and get his teammates involved. And even with lesser teammates for most of the 8 game span he's averaging twice as many assists than Westbrook. Westbrook has Durant and Harden but he's always squeezing to get his no matter what. Overall he's still pretty efficient though but he should be looking to pass more. And the knucklehead part usually comes in at the end of close games when he's trying to be an ISO hero mode that results in a loss. It's what cost them a few games against the Grizz in the playoffs and ultimately the Mavs series. It's probably a two way street though since Durant should be demanding the ball but I still think it's the PG to put him in that position. And I'm not insinuating that Lin>Westbrook because it's not true, I just wanted to show his turnovers aren't the end all, be all when you got for example Westbrook who's a top 15 player in the league despite his turnover problem. You got to remember he's essentially a rookie, and he seems to have a good mental capability to get better and eventually adapt.
Posts like these make me sad. Apparently, some human beings just aren't logical. Like another poster said, Lin came out of nowhere. How is Lin being overrated, right now? It's not like he was offered a max contract. It's not like he was voted into the ASG. No one is even saying he's the best point guard in his conference. Haters gon' hate.
JLin is so overrated that he makes $800K ha, ha ,ha! I think you can name a whole bunch of truly overrated players who are making a ton of money, even the ones who are not playing and still drawing a paycheck.
Westbrook on the Knicks without Amare and Melo: 32 ppg, 8 reb, 12 ast, 48 minutes, 4 stl, 7 to a game
I agree. It's just another situation where statistics don't always tell the whole truth. Another reason why Lin gets so many turnovers is b/c in D'Antoni's system, he handles the ball 3/4 of the time, so all numbers get a natural inflation. I really do hope he puts in some serious work in the off season and patch up his game. He's not an All-Star now, but definitely has the potential to be a superstar.
chandler, novak??? stoudamire missed the majority of those games and hasn't been playing too good lately anyway.
We seriously considering Novak a good player now? Chandler is the only good player playing at a consistent level besides Lin
