A drunk a-hole t-boned my wife and I in our 99 Eclipse Spyder Turbo Convertible a week ago. He was going close to 50mph. The impact drove our car off the street into someone's yard and a telephone pole. However, WE WALKED. Airbags blew, seatbelts hung tight, and despite the messed up angle that he hit us, the engine did not get driven into the passenger compartment. The car is dead, but we are not. We loved that car, and I can attest that its pretty safe. And it was FAST. Once we got to NO airport from Houston in just about 4 hours. Not smart, I know, but damn it was fun. The insurance was high, and dont forget to get uninsured motorist coverage. There are a lot of losers out there who dont have insurance. Like the loser who hit us. Thank god for our insurance. Picked up my G35 yesterday.
The only problem with the Mitsu though is it only plays that song "Put your body in Motion, Just start a commotion", over and over and over...............................
i wish i had the cas to buy a luxury car like a BMW, or a BEnz, thx for all the info u guys, i am willin to spend around 12-16 G's thas y i had the year 00, and i wanted a fast car... so thas also y i didnt have a luxury choice.. can u name some other sports cars around that price range.... btw i don like mustangs( they are UGLY)
Zs. Mazdas. I had a Mazda RX with the turbo in college and it was smooth and easy over 110 (odo top). Why am I not dead? Also pumped fumes in the cabin, making me dizzy. Boy, was I stupid then. The Z is nice, esp older. Btw, the Mazda crumpled like a tin can in a 35 mph side collision, approx 3 yr latr. Then, back to trucks for good. The lightning is a cool truck. For real speed, stick a v8 in a go-cart, like the old Huey Cobra.
I am guessing that the Eclipse will be less to insure than the firebird. As mentioned earlier, make sure that you get at quote from your agent before you make your decision. Also ask them how much you insurance will increase if you get caught racing. A five years ago in when i was in high school and got a fast car my insurance agent told me that if i got caught racing that my rates would increase the same amount as they would if I got a DWI. Also what specific model of each are you looking at? Meaning what engin. Also if you are dead set on performance you can more for your money if you go with a hardtop. When you said you didnt like mustangs did you mean just the current model or do you hate the last one too? If you look hard enough you may be able to find a 97-98 cobra in you price range.

Yeah, I know...my Prelude has 145 on the spedometer and I'm pretty sure many cars nowadays are somewhere around there. The only problem with that is even though it may say "145" on the spedometer, most of those are governed and will cut the power off at about 110 or 120, so it's just there for looks.
