I have noticed that Yao's arms have gotten more toned and bigger. Has anyone else seen this too or do i need glasses? I don't know how to post pictures...so maybe someone can do it. Find pictures where he is just standing but not actually playing because flexed muscle will always look bigger. It would be interesting to see a side to side comparison of Yao hist first days versus now. In the past when Yao is fighting for position, I usually saw his legs in one place, but his upperbody is easly pushed around by a strong opponent( like Sabonis). I am seeing less and less of this now. A good sign that he is getting stronger in the upperbody. This probably has alot to do with his missed free throws too. Also, Yao's offensive moves like his turn-around fade aways are so much quicker. Early on against the Spurs, Robinson was able to block it, but now, I don't think anybody can block that quick turn around. If Yao continues with these improvements , he will definitely be a force sooner than anyone anticipated.
The shot that impressed me was that hook shot he made. If he develops that with his Shanghai Shake and his turnaround... WOW Ming...
You know, I thought all these, Yao looks bigger comments was wishful thinking, but er... interesting photo.
Cool term! Has it been used in the media at all? So far, the only things I've heard are plays on his name, not on his moves. Maybe as a rookie you don't get personalized moves attributed to you.
He has been doing weight training. Just not HEAVY weight training. For someone who's never done it his whole life, even light weight training will be noticeable. There's no way you can tell me, even while flexing, Ming's arms looked like that when he got here.
What I think it is is simply positioning and better court movement...If you put your game tapes in the VCR from the first 2 or 3 games, you'll see what I mean. This fact enables him to be better able to appear stronger and quicker when he is going for rebounds and taking to the hole.
His arm does seem to have more definition compare to when he first arrive. He had been training with weight and the Rockets conditioning coach state that Yao and Steve are the hardest worker on the team.
He appears to be in the flow of the game like he is really getting comfortable. His progress is so rapid that his "peak" is hard to imagine. If he keeps improving at this rate where will he be in two years where most of us expected the beginning of what we are seeing NOW!
Yao has only been here a month and a half. That is not enough time to get significantly stronger. And yes, his arms did look like that before.
just wait till he puts in an offseason of workout(i hope he dont have to go to china) he will have no trouble wiht the liikes of Divac, and KAndi Man,,,, and i hope he doesnt bulk up too much, coz it can really take away from your quickness, and mobility
Rockets staff: Get Yao to read some Bruce Lee books, see the emphasis on forearms and develop the same ridiculously huge forearms Lee had. Yao's forearms still look skinny.
