So why single out Rap? Honestly some of this stuff is just created for parties and not meant to be some deep music. Some artist are purely creating stuff to dance to and get people moving. People need to understand what art truly is and what it means. It can be simple or complicated, goofy, silly, serious, whatever. Don't try to fit everything into a little box of what you personally enjoy. If you say Rap is Dumb you might as well throw in all the other genre's of music as well.
it most definitely isn't corporate....making music for the lowest common denominator so that it can make the most money isn't art. it MIGHT be if it took a little talent... but most of that **** is ghost-written and the production is as creative as all 4 'Scream' movies seriously getting people to dance to a super bass, cheesy club beat isn't hard. everyone could do it if they knew just a little about music. where the popular artists really compete is in their image, and shock-value. their music means nothing to them
There are some fakes in the music industry, in fact a lot of crap is ghost-written. Still whether you think it is easy to do or not doesn't change the fact it is art. Spoiler Give me some rulers and paint and I think I could do that. Too many people go "I don't like this. Therefore it sucks and is not equal to the things I listen to." and forget art is subjective. Although there are some fakes out there whose lyrics aren't their own and ideas aren't their own...but it wouldn't be fair to throw all popular music artist in that bucket and call it day.

When I complain about crap rap music and talk about hip hop and music in general as a art form i come as a hipster- if I bash hipster music for sucking I come off to them as a mainstream Lil Wayne fanboy/tool. Anyone else feel like that? And big ups whoever posted the Kendrick Lamar song. I've been anticipating the newWZRD Album and have been replaying wasting light and my beautiful dark twisted fantasy as of late. Both are electiv and awesome albums.
Hey buddy, basically just saying everything else that's been said, but there's great rap music out there if you give it a chance. See the last few songs posted in here, mainly HiiiPower. Whatever you're choice of music is, it's not hard to point out the ****tiest examples, it just happens to be that rap's worst is the most popular. As a genre, I think rap actually has the most potential because it doesn't count on 3-4 verses point. Obviously the chorus carries the weight, but then it has like 16 bars to elaborate on it instead of just a few to keep saying the same exact thing. It'll throw out the idea, then give ya some exambles. A lot of music will just give you the idea, then say the same thing for the next 3 minutes and call it a song. Anyways buddy, I'd say at least give it another chance, or if you're past that point just don't criticize it without even trying to understand it.

If you say so. True. A succinct encapsulation of my point. Arguably true, assuming they're rapping about something worthy of such a lengthy exposition - which, it should be said, is typically totally not the case. What I criticize, I understand completely: Rap has devolved such that the "popular" rap (as you yourself said) is only good for ****ty titty bar music.
While it's true rap devolved it didn't just devolve on it's own. Society demanded it. Society devolved too. Theres some song that goes "ass ass ass ass ass" Literally, those are the lyrics. And people enjoy them. Now what gave society the impetus to devolve and value dumb over intelligent is a lengthy discussion I'd be willing to partake in
