thanks for the link to the article, good read. It's nice to have some brains back in the front office!
Nice article! A bit depressing in that it characterizes not only our last place showing and last place talent, but in regards to those areas that will turn things around, we are also starting at the bottom. The hires since Crane has taken the club seem like good and popular ones. This is encouraging. But what Crane, in these hires, is doing is what most other clubs have had already for some time. My gut feeling is that we wont be the worst team in baseball this year, but only by a few games. While the article, and perhaps most, feel the Astros will put the worst behind them soon, if not already, the improvement curve they illustrate could be eclipsed. Yes, on paper things look like they will take a long time to catch other clubs, much less surpass them. But often, a turnaround can gain momentum quickly when the right people, the right strategy, and the proper timing all coalesce in the right way. Sometimes, the trickle down theory actually works when the head and the toe are on the same page and feeding off of one another. We will see. I am not expecting the above mentioned. But it is in the back of my mind. I will be looking for the tell-tales of it. Perhaps others are right, and it will come about gradually. Again, we will see.
