To those who think Taiwan and China are not the same.... I think it's all lulz..... They were connected, are connected, and will be in future years, no matter how the political situation is going to play out. Some of the people are just butthurt like a Kevin Martin because of the past..... like trades.... hard situations... confrontations....
That, or else he won't play in FIBA, I'm afraid. Too much politics in the way. If he plays for China, some islanders will be pissed off. Also what does he have to gain, risking injuries playing for a place that hasn't done anything for his development. Smart thing to do is to continue to say, "I haven't made a decision yet but I'm open to it." Taiwanese media is reporting that he'll continue his camp in Taiwan in the offseason; and his mom replied to a Chinese inquiry that they'll visit Mainland again in the summer. So there you go, he'll still be able to make people on both sides feel attached to him, without playing in FIBA.
He was born in the United States and is American. It kinda bugs me how Taiwanese pride folks like to wave Taiwan flags at his games. Do people wave Israel flags for Jordan Farmar or Cuban flags for Brook Lopez? If I were in his shoes, I'd only want people waving Texas flags (if any) at my NBA games.
I dont understand why people care where his blood is from....its so sad arguing, its like both these Countries have nothing else to be proud of. He is born in America, so he is American. I mean you can technically say African pride to all African Americans in the NBA with that logic.
It's not really that; the main reason for all the argument and flag-waving is China-Taiwan politics. I agree it's sad.
Funny thing although Yao Ming played for China, folks from Shanghai tends to get more excited because of the neighborhood, friends, all sports folks. Taking nothing away from rest of China, but it's kinda REGIONAL.
Makes me think North and South Korea had a United Korea flag at the Sydney Olympics 2000. Silhouette of the Korean Peninsula.
wont happen, i am sure mainalnd PRC would love it, to have a joint team or something, but taiwan is too hotly divided, my buddy who is american born taiwanese/chinese, went to taiwan two weeks ago, and said he wouldn't even wear blue to pan green areas, people are really rude and harsh if u disagree about unity issues
