First I must say that I have not seen Brad Miller all that much. I pretty much just watch Rockets games and then whatever games are on the national networks. Looking at his stats did not impress me . It seems to me that we should expect to get that kind of production out of Collier and in fact given Miller's stats and descriptions of his play by fellow posters I would say that is a reasonable expectation. Heck I thing we can get that kind of production from Pig. Thus, I would take the Rockets signing of Miller as a sign that they do not have as much faith as they once did in Collier's game (oops.. bad pick). Maybe even a lack of faith in some other players as well. The guy seems to be a ninth man at best and at 4 mil a year seems to be a bad choice for the Rocks. Hopefully Taylor will sign with us and quash the Brad Miller trade talks. Then again he Miller talks could be smokescreen intended to hurry along Mo's decision. ------------------
Judging Players by Stats and Descriptions After Never Seeing Them Play= Sign of Problems How exactly is Miller supposed to beat those numbers when he played just 17 minutes per game? Please explain. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net Assimilate David Falk!!
>Judging Players by Stats and Descriptions >After Never Seeing Them Play= Sign of >Problems Geez read the post gain Gato loco. > How exactly is Miller supposed to beat >those numbers when he played just 17 minutes >per game? Please explain. Perhaps he does not have the skills to merit more. Hard to say, just have to wonder if it wil be worth our while to sign him for so much and for three years to boot. ------------------
Elden Campbell was a very solid center last year, and one of the top ones in the East. And Derrick Coleman, Charlotte's PF, had a monster year and was their 2nd best player. There was no room for him to get minutes. However, in the games he was a starter when filling in for someone, he averaged 12 points/9 rebounds. For a center now days, that is VERY impressive. Don't judge him by stats and things you've read. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Draftsource.net Assimilate David Falk!!
>Don't judge him by stats and things you've >read. Ok, but how do you feel he fits with the team? In my mind Mo is a nobrainer as he is a proven scorer. Yes he may have defensive libilities but how many players have good offensive skills and do not have defensive liabilities??? I am just not seing how Miller would add to the team unless the Rocks think that his addition would make someoneelse , who has some value, expendable. ------------------
Miller is a guy with a decent offensive game who can run, play excellent defense, and rebound. And he gives 100% every night. Of course I would rather have Mo then him, but trust me- Miller would be a very good alternative if we can't get Taylor. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? I had only seen Miller when he was on the World Games team(?) The summer before his senior season, but having seen him there I couldn't believe he wasn't drafted when other guys on his team were (like Evan Eschenmeyer, Pat Garrity, and Brian Cardinal come to mind). Granted, it was very limited exposure, but he was clearly the only big guy on a team of his peers that would be considered an athlete. Specificaly, he was the only guy who was fit enough to look like he wouln't prefer to not move. He moved on defense rather than just reaching like alot of out of shape big men, and he ran the floor like it was natural. Theres nothing that pains me more than watching some big oaf (ala Big Country orTodd MacCulloch) strain and push to lift their legs 2" off the ground so they can run at the speed most point guards walk the ball to half court, and he didn't look like one of those. He also has the 'ideal NBA body type': lean and long with enough muscle to not be wiry. In short, when I saw him play against the best of his peers, he was the only big man that looked like an NBA player. Another thing to think of - if the Rockets decide that Cato's going to be a bad move in the long run they can trade him for a project-type center if they have a solid guy like Miller. For instance Miller ($4mil) + Michael Olowokandi ($2mil) = Cato ($6 mil). Which option which would be a better value? Just a thought. By the way, I'm pretty sure Collier's not going to be able to play inside at all on the offensive end. After going back to look at some film, he really can't jump at all. If he tries to post up anyone in the NBA he'll get all of his shots blocked. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Ottomaton (edited August 24, 2000).]
The only times I have seen Maurice Taylor (excluding college) have been against the Rockets. In those games he seemed to score at will. He can score nad he's a 4. For 2.25 million he is a steal, and if he really sacks up....maybe he'll get his big money. Brad Miller would be ok.....He seems to be a hustle/garbage player.....we could use that too. ------------------
A question. Since we couldn't trade up, we passed on Pryzbilla and traded down. Now we have the chance to pick up Brad Miller who is *minimally* Pryzbilla's physical and defensive equal and who has more offfensive abilities AND NBA experience. Everyone is *still* disapponted. Shouldn't there be some excitement surrounding this possible new addition? I say - sign him! ------------------ GATER
