It's his 6th year in the league and his jumper is still nonexistent.

he gets WIDE OPEN looks and still can't knock down jumpers consistently. so much that he's becoming a liability offensively.

It's so frustrating because he does so many other things well but if it's not a layup around the rim he actually hurts his team at times.

    Imagine Rondo with Allen's jumper.

Now imagine two fat chicks playing beer pong with gravy.

I can put anything into your mind.

...but yeah, Rondo's shot is pretty bad.

    It is.

    He does.

    He can't.

    He is.

    He does.

And that is why Ainge is trading him.

Is this in response to that wide open CLANK from Rondo in OT against the Lakers? I must say, the ending of that game (both regulation and overtime) was pretty intense. Gasol came up the hero twice in a row.

It was "intense" all right. Like Joe Kapp and Angelo Mosca.

Kobe kept leaving him open like a joke, making it harder on his teammates.

It's true. How can you be an elite PG when you can't hit open looks or free throws? Sometimes it seems like he doesn't even want the ball in his hands late in game because he doesn't want to end up at the free throw line with the game on the line.

btw does anyone remember when Rondo was in that horse competition during all-star weekend? I forget who he was playing against but when they were tied towards the end, because they were running out of TV time they just had the two of them taking jumpers from the top of the key and Rondo hit like 10 straight away threes in a row? This was a 2-3 years ago, but I always took that as a sign he was slowly adding the outside shot... guess not.

I find it amazing he can't develop a consistent 15-20 footer. I mean, you're a professional basketball player. All it takes is practice.

I keep hearing "it's because he has large hands"..well their are a good number of big PFs and centers with better mid range jumpers than him so that excuse shouldn't be used.

They are just like the Lakers and Celts tonight: A couple of past their prime over-the-hill guys in a laughable cat-fight. Yawn!

Yea I remember it(was vs. KD) and wasn't surprised.
He knocks down jumpers in practice all day, his set shot is complete money. Watch youtube videos of Celtics practice or Rondo. He hits his shots and the mechanics look really good.
In games if you look at him taking jumpers, they are completely different. Different jump, release, form, arc,...
It's a mental thing, Rondo is a good shooter. Same with Rubio.
Practicing a new form or shooting more in practice won't help a bit, these guys got their shots right. You have to let someone guard them in practice and let them take contested shots for countless hours, so that they adjust to real game situations and become more comfortable.

What do they get from this trade? I honestly don't get why some people like this idea for the Celtics. Rondo controls the pace of the game, can score 1on1 with his dribbling and sets up guys like Pierce, Ray, KG, Bass, Jermaine all the time. He's great on defense and has a huge ball-iq. Rondo is a top4 PG in this league and would make every team way better.
Now you trade him for a 30+year old vet that plays the same position as KG. Plus you don't get young talent or valuable picks in the trade. Boston won't win a championship with that roster and the "big 4" would have to be traded soon. So you go rebuild mode without a young star(Rondo)?

It's just complete BS and makes no sense.
How would a Pau for Rondo make the Celtics any better?

    Top 4? Please.

If he develop some sort of offense he could be, but he's not. And he wouldn't make Lakers better because he would just hog the ball the entire time. Both he and Kobe need the ball in their hands to be effective.

Do you even watch the Celtics? He's one of the best teammates you can wish for a potential offense. He directs their whole system and always finds the open man or finishes 1on1 by taking his man off the dribble.
People say he has no offense, still he averages 13.6 pts on 50.6 fg%.
Dude averages 4.6reb and 9.6ast with 1.7stl and plays beast defense. He guarded LeBron and Kobe many times, shut them down in some situations.
He's one of the most valuable guys in the league.
