Did anybody see that Two Towers Preview show on WB last night? "Return to Middle Earth" or something like that. It looks like all the cast members really liked to work with each other after shooting took like a year and a half...and is it me...or does New Zealand look like the most beautiful place on Earth? Anybody been there, is it a good trip? Anyways...movie looks like its going to be good...and I love the fact that most of the sets were actually built and not computer generated...makes it look so much better. Edoras, the city of the people of Rohan looked fantastic, you could really get a feel for the detail they put into making it (it took them 8 months to build for like 6 days of shooting, then they had to take it down). Seems like they could have left if up for tourists or something, even though it took like an hour and a half driving into the middle of nowhere from the nearest town to get there. This movie looks like it will be even better than the first, even though there are some minor changes from the book (I've heard Frodo and Sam get taken to Gondor before they go off to Mt. Doom and the party heading for Helm's Deep gets attacked on the way and Aragorn gets seperated for a time). But I don't think it will be that big of a deal and might actually fit well into the movie. I think it will be a good one...can't wait to see it! I'm such a dork, but I don't care!
It was a pretty good preview show. The stuff about Gollum and Andy Serkis was amazing. The exclusive clip at the end was just icing on the cake, IMO. (In the clip, did anyone catch how fast Legolas pulled himself up on his horse? Wow.) Also, did anyone notice that whenever Sean Astin and Elijah Wood were on camera, they were always hugging each other? That was a bit odd.
Do you mean that the characters they play were hugging each other in the clips that were shown, or the actors were hugging each other off scene?
that preview show was badass. I climbed off of the throne and walked into my living room and my wife was enthralled in it. She is a big LOTR fan and a big Dawson's Creek fan so no matter what on she was fired up. I plopped down on the couch and dissloved into the tv. I can't wait for this friggin show.
Yeah, I noticed all that stuff too. Andy Serkis had to do some crummy stuff to not actually get on the screen himself, but its good that their animating directly over him on screen, it will add a lot of realism. Legolas looked pretty cool, flipping around the horses neck and up on the horse. Astin and Wood did seem a little touchy feely, but like they said, they spent so much time with each other they felt like brothers...so maybe that explains it.
If anyone wants to see the 2 1/2 minute exclusive clip that was shown at the end of the preview show, go here.
This is kind of on the topic: I get my EW in the mail today and find that they gave the Two Towers a grade of B! A B?! You gotta be kidding. I don't like to read reviews until after I see the movie, so I can't tell why they feel it deserved this mediocre grade, but my guess is that they're idiots.
I live there (here). Yes, it does look exactly like that in many parts. Yes, it is fun to visit, you should come! Elvis and I will buy you a beer... Here's how important the Lord of the Rings is in New Zealand right now: the international reviewers' consensus on The Two Towers was the front page story in the paper today. We are a country of huge dorks.
I've read a lot of the early reviews of TTT, and it seems that PJ has changed a lot from the book. possible spoilers..... Faramir tries to take the One Ring from Frodo. But eventually comes to his senses. (complete opposite from the book) There is very little mention of the Palantir, which Saruman has. (could be put in ROTK) No Huorns at Helms Deep. But Gandalf leads another army towards the end of the battle, which finishes off the Orcs etc... Frodo is attacked by a Flying Nazgul. I always assumed that Sauron thought the Ring was in Gondor, and didn't know about Frodo and Sam. This could be a major change in the story line. But as long as Gollum is still there, and we get to see the Ents break up Isengard (which we do! ) I'll be content.
