That little running tear drop - floater - push shot that we've seen at least twice tonight is as indefensible as Abdul-Jabbar's sky hook. The reason is for the defense to stop it, they have to totally commit to the overplaying against it and it opens them up to the drive and slam.

That's what was so great about Abdul-Jabbar's sky hook. To stop it the defense had to commit to a double on his off arm, the arm furtherest from the bucket. It totally opened them up to the little dump off passes to cutters and shooters for dunks and wide open jumpers.

Players with these sorts of signature moves are rare, rare, rare. Combined with his athleticism, I can't say it enough, he is a very special player.

Rafer Alston's floater was more deadly ... to the rim.

Hakeem had the best floater ... he just never had to use it.

Hakeem's floater was so good, he would throw up a tear drop without even looking at the basket. Just ask David Robinson.

Agreed. 'Floater' was an apt name for his version of the shot if you think about it.

He isn't the only that uses/used it a lot. Stop the Rosie bandwagon.
