In reference to this thread: <a href="http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=213347">Kyle Lowry charged with battery</a>

[rQUOTEr]NBA guard Kyle Lowry entered a no contest plea Thursday to a misdemeanor battery charge for throwing a basketball at a female referee and threatening her during a pickup game last September in Las Vegas.

Lowry, 25, wasn’t in court today, but was represented by his attorney, Patrick McDonald.

McDonald told Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman that under an agreement with prosecutors, the matter would be dismissed if Lowry would complete 100 hours of community service at a battered women’s shelter or similar program, enroll in impulse control counseling and stay out of trouble for a minimum of six months.

    Goodman approved the agreement.

“If he does that, it’s dismissed. If not, conviction, and we’ll go from there,” Goodman said.

Goodman put Lowry’s next court date for 7:30 a.m. July 19.

Lowry, who plays for the Houston Rockets, was accused of taunting Infini Robinson while she was officiating an game between NBA players Sept. 22. Police say he threw the ball at her torso and cursed at her when the game ended.

Robinson was hit by another basketball while she was changing her shoes in an area designated for officials.

The report says Lowry later apologized, saying he let his emotions get the best of him[/rQUOTEr]

Guilty as charged........but if he does the 100 hours it will be dismissed.....

This is still not cool at all to toss a ball at a ref, particularly a female one.....pretty punk move...

I think he needs to throw another ball at someone.

Seemed to get him fired up for the season.

Good point, we need him to get back to making baskets instead of building houses with his bricks.

The punishment seems fair, and hopefully he learns from this.

It is fair, and I think a lot of his success is the anger/competitive fire that burns below the surface.

He has to learn to channel that and control it, he is still a young player, sometimes we forget that.

They should have assigned him 100 hours of mandatory dodgeball competition.

All he did was throw a basketball. If he was in high school he'd get 2 days suspension and detention, maybe.

Mmmh while I agree what he did was not gentlemanlike at all, and just plain wrong...100 hours...that's a lot of time...but if he is willing to do that, that's respectable.

I think Lowry just plays hard, I doubt anger is part of the reason for his success..

    High school <snicker>

This is a grown man here, he needs to be held accountable, more so than a high school kid.

Whatever, he threw a ball and now he'll go do some community service. Small price to pay I'd say to clock a stupid ref.

Im not shocked at the "harsh" sentence, especially for a 1st time offender

Blacks will less money have it worse.

The justice system has been sticking it to us harder than the normal white man for years. First time black offenders get harshier sentences, than repeat white offenders( but whatever, i wouldnt wanna live in any other country)

Funny how you blame the victim here and not the culprit.

It just had to be the refs fault right?

    LOL

personally, i think this is utterly ridiculous. to waste the states friggin money on this bull crap case? a ball hit my stomach and it embaressed me...o and you have money? hell yah i'm pressin charges...

this should have been thrown out immediately. verbal abuse and a basketball at the torso (not even the friggin head) is not worth the state's time/money.
