Right now it is 50, 50 as far as all of us being able to play Saturday at the Meyerland location. I put a phone call into my connections at the 24-Hour Fitness and he should get back to me in the next day or so. One thing the lady told me was that they don't usually allow visitors to use the basketball courts on a 1-day pass. There are tons of options for courts outside if the weather is good on Saturday, and I would be down for playing anywhere near the Compaq Center area. I will get back to everyone when I hear from 24-Hour Fitness!
I got a call from my great connection at 24-Hour Fitness about an hour ago. He said again that they don't usually allow visitor's with a one-day guest pass to shoot hoops, but no one enforces that strictly. He also said that he as a trainer could not hook us up with enough passes, only a salesman who wanted to see if we were actually interested in working out their extensively. So it does not luck good in my humble opinion for 24-Hour unless B & some others will give up their allocated guest passes to us other folks. Anyway, playing some streetball hoops outdoors on a Saturday afternoon is much better than being locked up inside. There are lots of parks near the Compaq Center to play b-ball, unless someone has access to a gymnasium that we don't know about.
Guys I am on the north side of town and I don't know any of the parks around the city. Can someone please just list some of the parks/locations and we can pick where to play?
I just checked out the weather for Saturday and there is a 10% chance of rain, and a 50% chance on Sunday with the temperature hanging in around 40-60..This means our chances of hooping in the park could be limited and we need ideas! lol Does anyone know if there is a YMCA near the Compaq Center or a Recreational Center? Maybe we can get a 1 day pass there?
I think I am available Saturday. 50/50 on it. I don't work, I don't have **** to do. I barely study for my finals. Looking good.
Okay, I just got done chatting with ron413, and he was talking to Grega. Here is the latest plan. ron413 tells me there are good outdoor full courts at Rice that are free, and we don't have to worry about help getting us in. It may be a little cool that day, so I think we should play from 2-4, about the warmest part of the day, and it gives us plenty of time to get cleaned up at wait in line for our bobbleheads Saturday night. Heypartner, or T_J, could you give good directions on how to get to the outdoor courts at Rice? ron413 told me they are sort of hidden in the back. Possible list of participants this Saturday: B ron413 Grega Gutter Snipe Kam Sonny Tonaaayyyy Rockets Red Glare BigM B
i have a membership to 24hour fitness and also one free guest pass. if i can get over this flu by saturday then i'll definitely play and someone here can use the pass.
Okay, we need to pick a place the end of tonight so everyone can check Friday and know where to go. I say this time we try the outdoor courts at Rice. I emailed Heypartner about directions, but no response as of yet. We need to keep the place we play close to the Compaq Center so it is easy for Grega to make it. B
Sorry about not getting back to this thread. I see you changed the date. You can't play at Autry Court without some organization, and it is pretty unlikely when school is in session. Each member gets only one visitor, but it used to be 3, so you can probably talk your way in. The other way to do it is to just go to the court and play with about 5 members getting the ball and don't bother going to the counter unless they ask. We still should get about 5 students/members, though. As for the outdoor courts These are not covered, so I don't recommend it, unless the just very recently covered them. Plus, there is no guarantee they will be unused on a Saturday. do you still want directions to Rice's uncovered courts???? I mean, there are covered courts at Memorial and Heights Blvd (Waugh).
We didn't exactly change the date, we added some dates. The 28th is still going to be the big event. This weekend is just a chance for some of us to go out and play, but not make too big of a deal about it. Are the covered courts at Memorial and Heights Blvd open to everyone? Are the uncovered courts at Rice in bad condition? Are there any restrictions on who can play in the outdoor courts at Rice? Even if they are used, it shouldn't be too hard for us to form a team of 5 and say that we have the next game, right? B
the uncovered court at Rice is brand new, but I've never played on it. I'm sure you could ask for next game if it is being used. The covered one at Memorial and Heights is a city park. One of those very high ceiling courts with about 10 baskets or so (3 or 4 full courts). I'm not sure of whether all the rims have nets in good condition, etc, but the city courts usually seem to be fairly well maintain regarding rims and backboards.
So we have a small chance of playing indoors if we get 5 members or we can play outdoors without any restrictions?
I think you have zero chance of playing at Autry Court this week, due to a home game. Even the satellite courts will probably not work. And now that I think about it, the Gym might be closed on the 28th, because it falls on a week when the campus closes down, although that might not apply to the gym. My previous suggestions for Autry Court were for the Summer break. btw: the price is now $5 each, but like I say, we used to just bring people onto the court without getting clearance, as long as there are not crowded courts. We had a regular weekday noontime game, for instance, when a lot of Baylo0r/UT med school students played.
Guys im ready for this saturday! I suggest we start playing at 2.30 pm! I have lunch at 1pm. I hope it goes the same for others...anyway it would be cool if it is going to be near the compaq center! Indoor or outdoor...i dont care! But like i said i will play at any location...but not to far away...later
