I thought about Gasol / Bynum, and Randolph / Gasol, but in both those instances, Gasol and Randolph are fast enough to guard PFs. I can't imagine Kaman played a minute in his career at PF, nor would I want him to. Actually, he never would with our lineup either with Scola + Patterson already getting all the PF minutes.
One curious thing about Kaman: He's one of the least efficient players on offense out there when you look at his so-called "advanced stats," at least the publicly available ones. His turnover rate is too high and TS% is too low. And this has been true consistently for his entire career. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kamanch01.html On the other hand, if you watch him play, Kaman is a decently skilled center-- can hit some mid-range J, has post moves, and is a decent defender/rebounder. He just has a tendency to try to do things that are just a little be more difficult than his skill level allows (taking Js that are a little more contested or a little farther than he's capable of making, driving into crowsd, etc.) In other words, Chris Kaman, at first glance, would be the complete opposite of a "money-ball" pick in every way except one: that his contract is expiring so you are not betting a whole lot on him. Kind of interesting that the Rockets are going after the guy. They must think that he's been wrongfully utilized in the past (which may very well be true given that he's been on mostly crappy teams) and that the Rockets coaching staff and teammates can unlock his potential. durvasa: Any thoughts on him based on adjusted +/- or other available numbers?
I came here wishing this was a thread about Dwight Howard. Anyway, if we only trade expiring contracts (09 class) do we actually open any cap space futher on or is it the same?
I'm sure Morey and McHale are looking at his skillset and defensive presence rather than raw numbers. If Kaman looks good in ways that a regular fan can pick up on, then he likely wouldn't cost a bunch of expiring contracts in the first place.
from the sound of it, the trade pieces we are giving up are expiring as well. so that doesnt even matter. although if Kaman plays well I wouldnt surprised to see an extension. It would just be nice to have a legit C as a back up as well, upgrade over our current back up c by far.....well actually, with Hills last two games, I am actually quite pleased.
I should probably just wait for the trade to actually happen since this is starting to become a Random Trades thread. Oh and by the way, if you're going to throw in a random deal then why not shoot for the stars acquiring Dwight and Dwill rather than Noah. Just wondering since the bulls wouldn't even offer Noah to get D12. LOL
How much better is relative but I think Kaman is good enough to get us into the playoffs and make a good run. He's a skilled big body that has good post moves and he can rebound. As crazy as it may sound... It was only a couple years ago that he was considered one of the top 5 centers in the league. He does a lot of similar things to Marc Gasol and we all know how much Marc is loved on this board.
If we're jus swapping expiring contracts - fine. By not picking up the extensions on the 09ers, they know theyre not in our plans - so let em go somewhere that they might play and get a deal in the offseason... plus keeps any ill will outta our locker room.... Kamen comng here is an upgrade to JHill, and has better potential for a sign n trade in the offseason than the 09ers do... so a straight swap of any expiringcontracts (with the exception of CLee) is a win-win... Now if they want PPat or Knicks pick or someone not on an expiring contract - screw that! I might grease the wheels with a second round pick, for the aforementioned reasons, but nothing more....
If i was Morey I would make a play for Xavier Henry, even if it involves having to include a guy like Dragic and/or Courtney Lee in the trade....
yes I was just glancing at that myself. I took a couple things from the analysis: 1) He is a bad offensive player 2) For his career his real value has been on the defensive end...but that seems to have tailed off dramatically after his first few seasons
Kaman would have had a good career if any other team had drafted him. Not that his was bad he still got an all-star selection... But could have been better.

I just know that Kaman would not be the final move so I was trying to think of a corresponding move that would actually be realistic. Apparently you don't agree with the realism of this idea lol, but you do have a valid point. I think I am just ready to get rid of Scola and Martin and move on with younger guys :grin:
I think Kaman and Dalembert can play together but more because Dalembert is active enough to defend 4's for stretches. Both are centers but teams play two PF's or 2 PG's or 2 SG's or 2 SF's all the time, it can be done. As far as the deal goes, I think Morey would have preferred to get picks out of the '09ers but my guess is that didn't happen. The next best thing would be to get another expiring contract that actually has on court value. This helps the rockets in a couple ways. It allows them the flexibility to move Dalembert in a trade, possibly in a package with one or more of our main guys for a star. It also gives us his bird rights. So, instead of bringing back a guy like Jordan Hill with an inflated contract due to "potential", you bring back a real center with talent on a similar contract and likely get a good deal on his contract because of his age/injury history.
