08/23-THE "WIZARD" FOR BIG BRAD?- Reports from the Houston area say the Rockets have had introductory discussions with the Charlotte Hornets about a sign and trade deal for Brad Miller. The Rockets may be looking to part with Walt Williams according to an informed source near the team, but acknowledged that Bryce Drew is likely the name mentioned first. The deal in part would send out a Rocket player and use the trade exception the Rockets hold worth roughly $4.8 million to land Miller in Houston. The Rockets are going to get more aggressive in their trade talks as the exception expires at the end of this month according to the Houston Rockets. The Hornets have basically given Brad the cold shoulder and have not even had serious talks with him about re-signing with the team. They have made it clear to his agent and the media that they intended to match any contract offer given to him, up to 6 years if necessary, making him impossible to sign for an exception, with Chicago looking to leverage the majority of its remaining capspace on Glen Rice, there may not be enough to pay Miller. Brad left a Chicago offer of $25 million over 5 years on the table, its unlikely he wants to be a Bull, unless now its desperation.

Drew, Williams and the trade exception seems like an awful steep price for a guy like Miller. I would think that he could be had for either player or the trade exception straight up. Also, Williams is currently our starting SF. I know the Rockets are expecting Langhi to do well but it's doubtful he can start this year. I see little sense in getting another center by weakening our depth at SF.

I read it anyway and confirmed that I think it's BS. If Brad is a BC player and his salary only counts 50% in trade value, then we would have to sign him for $9M a yr in a trade just for Walt...if we use the trade exception then we'd have to sign him for $18M a yr. BS? ...I think so.

What sort of disclaimer is this? You're on a sports site messageboard, not hanging out w/ a bunch of 70 year olds watching Pollyana.

Their's no way in hell that Walt Williams is getting traded for Brad Miller. Sure everyone wants Bryce Drew to go in a trade, but you may as well waive him and admit the error of the 1998 draft. Maybe CD even publicly saying "gee, I can't believe that we didn't draft Rashard Lewis" would be appropriate.

If the Rockets are going to acquire Miller, I hope they do it outside of the exception. The problem is that the Hornets are solid at the frontcourt... exactly where the Rockets have an abundance of scrubs.

Hopefully Miller sees the starting lineup in Chicago and just signs so that we won't have to see CD's and RudyT's theories in chemistry by trading Langhi for Miller.
