At 12:30 until 3:00 today, I got my chance to meet and watch some nba ballers play in a pickup game. I was actually on my way out to get some food, when I saw Bo Outlaw and Othella harrington. Then, I saw shandon Anderson, which suprised me-- Then on the otherside, there was Nick Van Exel, (who crossed some scrub and knocked one in off the glass) I saw Cat walk in, and take a seat in the game benches. Soon, he was laughing and mouthing with all the other ballers. And then, he was barking on a cell phone to someone who turned out to be Steve. He was waiting on steve to get down to the courts. So, i watched some games-- Bo Outlaw and Shandon didn't fair too well. Othella was having a good game, running with some Fonde vets. And soon stevie francis shows up in a black and navy blue Thread 3 athletic outfit. I was suprised that he wasn't wearing his Blacktops. He bounced the ball like a kid and went to the far side of the court, where he through down a vicious jam. In the first pick-up game that steve and cat got into, they were doing alright, and steve scored on only one basket. I saw him cross a pickup baller, but passed out, where the ball was turned over. On one fast break, stevie through it to a big man, but the ally was brought down, and the layup was missed...Stevie must've been thinking.. "what the hell?!?-- bigman can't finish?" Cat hit the game winner in a close one- with a nice fallaway.

The second game was ugly. Cat tried to be a little too agressive and couldn't get anything to fall. They lost 5-2, and that was the end of steve and cat. Steve left at around 2:30... around 30 minutes after he arrived. Cat sat around a bit..but eventually most of the ballers decided to leave at around 3 or 3:15..

outside were Mercedes Benzes lined up and chromed out!- I managed to get a few shakes of the hand with Cat, Steve, and Shandon, as well as Bo.

I think i also spotted moochie but he was just lifting or something..didn't see him ballin'.

That's my day's action.. talk with you ppl later. =)

    Good post Elie#17

I remember my visits to Fonde when I lived in Houston. Watching Moses school a young Dream. Lots of NBA players have played there.

What is Fonde? I used to see players at Westside and second Baptist(When i lived in Houston). During the strike was awsome at westside. Lewis Loyd used to drive around and go to pickup games anywhere. He was crazy.

Fonde is located in Downtown Houston. It's off of 288 on Houston st. near the Police station and court house. I bet if you stop by.. you can ask anyone walking around where it is. I think I got lucky this time to see soo many players. I wonder if these guys regularly show up. Shandon had said that he's been balling there for a few days. I'm not sure if Steve was impressed to stick with it, because both him and Cat had poor showings.

Fonde Rec Center is one of the "Meccas" of playground basketball. It's pretty legendary even among many NBA players. I believe Tim Breaux was "discovered" there, IIRC.

Here's an article that rates some of the best street ball locations in the nation. Fonde rated as #2 in the nation according to these guys. The article mentions Rudy T attending some of the games to watch the players.

    ELIE#17,

Will Francis and Mobley be there all week
or do they just pop up on giving days? How
in the hell did they have poor showings at Fonde. I went to the summer camp there a couple of years ago and we played nothing but street style ball so I know Francis and Mobley fit in because thats what they play.

    Lil Francis,

uhmm... i have no idea if they'll be showing up for the rest of the week..

seriously though, they had poor showings.. b/c their squad only scored 2!?! points.. and didn't win the game. Street ball style or not... they didn't put the ball in the basket.

I might go again sometime this week before I go to Austin.

    ELIE#17,

Im not calling you a liar but its kinda hard for me to believe that a team with Francis and Mobley only scored 2points. It might be true but I don't believe that part too much.

Play to 5, winner takes out. Just a guess, but given Mobley's and Francis' D...

    Lil' Francis,

You're doubting me? The fact is, I'm guessing Cat's J wasn't on. No, they don't play to 5, they have a clock..and i believe it's around 10 minutes. You can say what you want, but i saw what i saw. They scored 2 points. I heard they were there again, I'll probably go down tomorrow and bring my camera and try to catch some pics.

I heard that Stevie and Anthony Goldwire were battling it out today. And i heard Cat got pissed off again.. hmm.. i just hope they'll show up again tomorrow.

    nope..dangit..
    no sign..

I was about to ask him to autograph this notepad..but he had just finished taking a picture with me..and was already on his way out..

he was a bit frustrated b/c he committed a turnover that lost the game.. the game clock was winding down..and his team with shandon on it was down by 1..he had the ball and shook his defender only to pass to a guy on the other team.. at that point.. he looked hella frustrated and walked outta the gym momentarily.. dang..

I almost chose a bad time to get a pic from him..(the first time i tried my cam was outta film..so i had to say. maybe later.)

still..i got some pics of a thunderous jam..that i'ma try and get scanned once i develope the roll.
