While it is only my opinion, I do not like the way McHale has been rotating the roster. Yesterday ( vs the Bucks ) we played a total of 8 players. The Bucks? 13. I know it was our first loss in a while, but McHale it seems has placed Hill and Chase in the dog house. While they may not be the best players, do we need need a larger rotation for "fresh legs"? Maybe Morris will help answer that problem (?) when healthy?
No, not in a compressed schedule like we have now...there is no way....look at good coaches like Popovich and see how they manage their team's minutes for the answer. DD
Great that is what Houston fans are reduced too cheering for the next big trade. Hip Hip Hoora......meh ! DD
That rotation is the win-at-all-costs mentality which will only possibly benefit short term and is almost guaranteed to hurt you long term.
You can win with an 8 man rotation, it has been done before a number of times. Further, just because it is 8 men now, doesn't mean it will be in a month. The Rockets are a young team, they can handle heavy minutes, especially with it unlikely that they will go deep in the playoffs.
No you can't win consistently with a compressed schedule and using only 8 men.....they will die on the court. As is happening now...look at how Lowry is slipping into Rafer Alston level of shooting.... DD
Rockets were on a 7 game win streak with the tighter rotation. Wanting to think it was a "don't change things while we're hot" approach. Now that streak is snapped, perhaps a longer rotation
Early in the year we were throwing 9, 10, 11 guys out there per game. Some made the conclusion that we were pacing ourselves for the crowded upcoming schedule. Some felt McHale was sizing up our roster. Some thought we were shopping guys for trades and were giving certain players exposure. Many were not sure really who should be playing. Then our rotation shrunk. The 9-11 man rotation became the 8 man one. Some are worried about our starters minutes especially Lowry. My take is this: McHale did want to look at everybody. Put them in scenarios where they had a chance to succeed. But a big rotation with a new coach and new system was just causing havoc with chemistry and the learning curve. So after a early season evaluation, we shrunk down the rotation. Giving guys more minutes together accelerates the learning curve. Gives chemistry a quicker opportunity to develop. I believe we are starting to see the benefits of this. It makes sense to me to establish a nucleus. A group of guys who have learned to play well together. At least in our starting 5, this has clearly occurred. Its easier to add a player or two into a rotation that already works than it is to try to make one with 9-11 guys work together all at once. Our 2nd unit still needs some work, but its better than it was. I am guessing this is where things are. Now that guys are showing fatigue, and the schedule (more than standard 82 game schedule) continues to challenge our stamina, situationally a 9th or perhaps 10th guy will come in to help guys get more rest. I really think a continued 8 man rotation in this years climate will not work. Not only only will it not work, but tired fatigued players are more likely to have an injury. So its dangerous as well. Who will these 9th and 10th guys be? I am betting neither McHale or Morey even know. Depends on practices, D-League, and player movement throughout the league. But my bets would be on a return of Morris, and a second sampling for someone(s) currently out of the rotation. Twill would be the guy on paper for me because he can play 3 positions, and CAN BE a 2 way player. But the usual reasons may continue to plague him and keep him on the outside looking in. If not him (more than likely) I would put my money on guys who can play multiple positions and give a modicum of defense.
Coach is in a difficult position. I'm sure he would prefer a 9 or 10 man rotation, if he could. But can we afford to watch lead after lead dissipate in five minutes every night? Jordan Hill has shown he is overmatched in this league. Not sure if it's basketball IQ or lack of size or lateral quickness. Terrence Williams often brings nothing to the table-doesn't seem to know what role he's supposed to play. Budinger looks like he's a rookie again-not competeing, very tentative. In short, he only has 8 guys that are worthy of minutes right now.
not sure if serious? did you read his tweets yesterday? dude, won't play another minute for the Rockets.
Guilty as charged . I feel like it's still preseason. Not excited about this roster and still waiting for the one I can get behind...I feel like it's a lost season...hopefully I'll come around.
McHale would use a more players if he had more players. But he only has 8 guys who can play. Morey needs to find him more players.
I wouldn't mind if they bring in Marcus Morris as a scoring punch off the bench. The kid has shown he can score...
Most coaches play an 8 to 8.5 men rotation. I guess in this crammed schedule, a longer rotation would help.
Need Thabeet... We do need a few more bodies on court to keep the legs fresh though. Hill having a bad flu hasn't helped much either.
I've been hanging around this forum for about 5 years now. You are consistently irritating to read. Just STFU! Every team is waiting for the next big trade, its the damn NBA! Back on topic, I think they should give some minutes to Hill and TWill. If TWill isn't able to make a positive impact for the team then they should shelve him away. Hill can still have an interior presence even if its a bit limited, so he's not useless.
