He plays against Shaq. That is the truth. Sure he has had some great outings in the past month but people will continue to doubt him until he plays against Shaq. I'm not saying that everyone will but there are people who would and will say that Yao had a dominant night last night on a washed up David Robinson, and his big night against Dallas was against a Shawn Bradely who has never been worth much, or that his perfect night against the Lakers was without Shaquille O'Neal. When he does play against Shaq there will still be doubters out there. Of course if he doesn't play well against Shaq then people will say "he needs to work on his game" or "he needs to beef up some more" or some other ludicrous statement. If he does play well then you'll probably hear "his performance was enhanced by Shaq's poor toe" or some other lie. Then there are those who will point to his earlier games when he did poorly against less dominant centers. Of course these idiots fail to realize in the beginning of the year Yao played all of 10 minutes a game but some how they conveniently leave out that part. I have no doubts Yao Ming will end up being a great and dominant player but there are others who will always doubt him. I'm sick of these doubters and they need to let him continue to bloom in the NBA. They need to realize just because you didn't start playing basketball in the United States doesn't mean you can't become one of the games dminant players. It has worked in other sports and now it's going to work in basketball.
this is poor rationale. 95% of the league has a center not named shaq. so if ming cant be the best player in the league at his position then his abilities are invalid? thats like saying because sacramento didnt win the finals then they arent for real.
Until Yao's game becomes more consistant. Everytime he steps on the court he has to bring his "A" game. Everyone has to chip in to help Yao get the ball where he is comfortable. Many critics want him to fail... I hope he makes all of his critics that are doubting him kiss his arse.
Lil Pun, I live in Lakers land is the biggest "Rockets lover/Laker hater" around here. When somebody makes the comment that Yao didn't do it against Shaq, I always give them this analogy. The players that Yao dominated are the same players that Shaq dominates but when Shaq dominates, you don't hear anybody stating.... "That was just Bradley, Duncan, Robinson or whichever center he faced". This ALWAYS shuts them up. Bottom line is... Yao is playing against the same NBA (emphasized) players that Shaq dominates so that "he didn't play Shaq" logic does not hold water. Smile
I think some of you misinterpreted my words. I AM NOT doubting Yao but I think others will continue to do so so maybe their arguments do not hold up. I said I think Yao is a good player and has the ability to become a great player.
you're absolutely right bongman. it's like saying, "Well, Shaq isn't going up against Shaq". maybe every center just sucks and shaq happens to be the one to suck the least.
