His desire to be good has always be in quesion. I like his talent level, but the things I wanted to see this year didn't happen. Short dribble and pull up, attacking off the bounce, beter effort on defense. Bud came back the same player in part and that can't happen. Not to mention he's more 2 than 3 to me and there's a logjam there.
Bud has no heart...he will be traded or resigned with a minimum contract by the end of the offseason.
Pretty much. It's not that Budinger all of a sudden "gave up" or became a worse player. The problem is that the Rockets brought in Parsons and he beat out Budinger for his minutes, and Lee beat out Budinger for the backup 2/3 minutes. That's the problem with Chase Budinger, the roster keeps getting better, and he stays the same guy. Spoiler
Toronto for a 2017 3rd round pick. martin has impressed me with his defensive effort. His skill will never be there, and he is too small, but he has been putting effort in on the defensive side. He plays passing lanes well as well...(Odd sentence).
Dude, this is the NBA, a man's game. He was given an opportunity to start and keep his job. If he can't figure out that he needs to step it up to get more PT then the NBA is not for him. And his competitive nature shows on the court with his body language. He's sort of sulking out there.
Although this could also be in the context you're alluding to, I think Adelman was referring to last night, with Wesley Johnson (?) out and Michael Beasley out, and Derrick Williams plays more of a 4 game with the height of a 3.
That'd be nice. Morey chasing after assets. Then he could swing another deal. Come to think of it, so could Minny, cause they'd have Bud, Beasley, and Wesley J. at the 3.
I dont believe Chase understands that lack of drive and defensive intensity will not be tolerated by McHale... Kudos to McHale!
I wish we could trade Bud for a young backup center. Do you think there is any chance OKC would part with Cole Aldrich for him?
I am not sure if Lee could play the 3 full-time. But I agree that playing Lee could be a better option. This is the beef: Adelman was furious after Morey traded Battier away. And because of the success we had after the trade deadline, a lot of people on this board said that Morey used the trades to force Adelman to play the players whom management wanted to be played.
I think bud is gonna be traded because with parsons getting his minutes and him now sitting on the bench he knows he is
What bugs me about Chase is that this is his third year in the league, and he came in as the established starter. Sure, he wasn't locked into that slot, but it was definitely his to keep. McHale's fire and brimstone vs. RA's coddling is immaterial -- the dude just flat out came in this year with nothing new to show us and then didn't fight to keep his job. He may not have regressed physically, but he certainly has mentally. As a marginal starter, he should be showing us something MORE than last year. He could've jumped in when McHale was picked as coach and immediately begun studying up on that style of defense. He could've worked on his handle or on some moves to create his own shot. From what I've seen (and McHale as well), Chase didn't do much of anything. He simply handed his job to a rookie with a better work ethic, and that's pretty sad. That said, if he can become comfortable in a spark-plug-off-the-bench role and deliver consistently as such, he might be worth keeping around at the right price.
The jury is definitely out on that one. You know Chase has to be feeling the pressure. His contract next season has a team option. The Rockets are sure to pick it up if he isn't moved, being less than $1 million, but Budinger has to be thinking about his furure. He's in a tough spot.
Hey, he wouldn't be the first... http://www.funwhileitlasted.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/courtside1977-chamberlain.jpg ... the answer to the question "Which professional volleyball player was a former NBA 50 PPG scorer?"
PPat isn't really outwardly competitive either. He is rather mild and "cool" on the court. I don't see his playing diminishing (despite for the reason of his injury of course) So this leads me to believe that Bud may not highly competitive. McHale is around him a lot more than we are obviously.
This has plagued Chase since Arizona - the lack of growth that is He was a projected lottery pick after his freshman year but he stayed Then he was a first round selection after his sophomore year but he stayed then he went in the second round at 44? The reason being was that the player he was his junior year was the exact same player he was his freshman year...someone that is a capable basketball player but still flawed. His career averages for all 3 seasons (granted this season is limited to 15 games played) are all pretty much the same each year. so it shouldnt be a real big surprise when he is in his 3rd season now and still hasnt shown any real big signs of improvement. its a shame but its the truth he does the bare minimum needed to continue to get by and collect a large (for the avg person) paycheck. Its disappointing because he could have been a lot better - a good rotation player on any NBA team not just a guy that would be a good fit on certain teams. But if it wasnt clear before it is clear now that he doesnt have what it takes to remain a starter in the NBA for any team that wants to win. I really like what McHale did in benching him and not letting him play the last two games, if that doesnt get him motivated to work harder in the practices on BOTH ends then honestly he doesnt deserve to see any playing time. Adelman was a excellent coach, but too loyal and we saw last year how it hurt the team when Brooks was back from his injury and hurting the team more than helping but Adelman stuck with him. Nice to see that McHale realizes he has other options that will produce and went with Parsons - Same applies with Dalembert taking over for Hill. Maybe it has to do with U of A guys just sucking?
This. And, to whoever used that Phil Jackson reference, Phil could holler and demean players with the best of them. He regularly called Kwame Brown a p*ssy. It makes sense to give a pat on the back when we're talking about Lamar Odom level talent but not with a guy who's merely a rotation player on mediocre team. A role player like Budinger needs to be more active or they won't stay in the league. Mchale is doing him a favor by showing how important it is for him to maintain a high energy and effort level.
