If I am esentially at 59 and 610, how long will my commute be in the AM and PM to I-45 and Aldine-Bender (exit South of the Tollway).

I am asuming that I would take 59 North to 45 North through downtown and exit Aldine-Bender.

    Comments?

    Thanks!!

Drew, I make this trip quite often. I work in SW Houston and one of my sites I work at is near the airport.

I have found the fastest way is to take 59 N up to 610 and then 610 W to the Hardy Toll Road and go N on the Hardy. Youll see an exit for Aldine Bender right there.

    Hope that helps.

Seems like you'd take 610 North to 45.

Of course, I haven't lived in Houston in nearly 8 years.

I did make it from Katy to River Oaks in 13 minutes once though.

I wouldnt think that that trip would be too bad, but I would probably take 610 around to 45 instead of going through downtown, 59 really sucks right now with the construction before downtown. If you want to check out your commute, just go here and the site will tell you everything you need to know: http://traffic.tamu.edu/incmap/incmap.aspx . I think the speeds of freeways are updated every minute.

The bad thing about going 610 around to 45 is hitting Galleria traffic in the morning, not to mention the ramp to take you to 45 N off of 610 is backed up two because its a bottleneck.

You are like a giddy little school boy with all your moving to Houston posts! What a cutie pie! Well, at least you are enthusiastic and still find meaning in this worthless dead world we live in....:(

I assume you will be at 59 South and 610, which is pretty much the Galleria area. If you take 610 north to 45, you will hit the Galleria traffic (which is nasty). If you take 59 north to 45, you will hit all the traffic going into downtown (which is equally nasty).

I can't give you any exact estimates, but during peak traffic, it's taken me 15-20 minutes just to get from 610 at 59 to 290. I imagine the trip from 59 and 610 to 59 and 45 would be equally slow (if ot slower). So I would guess you'd be looking at a 35-40 minute commute at a minimum, and 40-60 minute commute on bad days.

I'm assuming you meAN 610 AND 59 by the Galleria. The best way to do it is to go through the Galleria (somewhat against traffic) around N Loop 610 to 45 N. Once you pass through the Galleria it flows pretty well around the N Loop to 45 N..

I'd estimate 40 minutes in the am and say 10 to 15 minutes more, if in the night rush hour. 30 minutes or less both ways from the Heights.

Living close to downtown (midtown) and Montrose with easy access to 45 N might be the way to go. That would give you good access to the more happening parts of town (DT, Montrose, Galleria and save you some commuting. Heights is not as good for a young single imho.

LeGrouper, do you need someone to talk about this with?

I am benevolently and positively concerned with your recent behavior, young man.

My god I just checked that site I posted earlier, it is funny how the whole thing is lit up at this time of day. http://traffic.tamu.edu/incmap/incmap.aspx 10, 290, 610, nothing but red. Thank god I live in the part of town where I dont have to go through that everyday.

Just to follow up, because of the semi-permanent I-10/59N exchange closure, you get a long LONG backup when exiting 59N to go 45N. Thats why I always use 59 up to 610 then to Hardy.

Ugh, I hate Houston traffic and I drive 150 miles around the city all day long (that is, when I actually chose to do some work instead of hanging out here all day long).

Where are you going to be working Drewdog? Why not live closer to where you work?

That drive is gonna suck. The tollroad does help a lot though. Get an Easy Tag.

I used to drive from here to U of H every day. I would recommend taking 59 to 45. STAY OFF THE WEST LOOP!!!!!

That being said I would estimate 30 to 40 minutes each way.

This all reminds me of two of my favorite groups... Pink Floyd and Traffic.

The beginning of a never-ending problem, Drewdog. Good luck. :)

Funny you should say that Drewdog...I live at 59 and 610. I wouldn't live here if it wasn't for my job being three miles away. You have a choice, I would definitely recommend living closer to work. When you are playing, you won't have to go against traffic so much.

I live at 59 and 610 too. Frankly, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I have had short commutes (2 miles) and not so short commutes (30 minutes to UH). The thing of it is that I love being centrally located. I live 5 minutes from Compaq Center...and 5 minutes from Rice Village.

I wouldn't live here if I worked in Spring or Sugarland...but I don't mind a 30 minute commute in order to live where I want. But that's just my 2 cents.

I WORK at 59 and 610, and my commute is out to just west of the Galleria. I sometimes take 610 north in the afternoons, and it is OK, but it seems like going south at that time of the day would SUCK!

Living right there in the Galleria doesn't give you much chance of avoiding traffic Drewdog

However, to the question - I would estimate 30-40mins in the morning and a bit more in the afternoon.
