I hope to God It's not. I think coach will put Parsons or Pat on Love like he did when Bonner played the 4.
It's difficult to say it much better. His stats are pretty impressive, and if you watch a 12 minutes of his play you see how he changes our team for the better.
This would be a very cool thing. HAyes is a very good 4 that excelled at 5. With Dal, we would be very tough on the inside. I would rather have Chuck at 4 than Scola.
The Rockets were actually quite good with Chuck Hayes on the court last year: 114 points scored and 108 points agaiinst per 100 possession, roughly a six-point differential. The problem was that when Chuck (and the other starters) sat, the 2nd unit, which too often involved Jordan Hill or Aaron Brooks during the first part of the season, often struggled. http://www.82games.com/1011/10HOU16.HTM#onoff Of course, the early return with Dalembert this season so far has been even more dramatic, a +11 differential while he is on the court. Of course, sampling probably has something to do with it: there hasn't been quite that many games, and Dalembert became a starter (and got more minutes) right about at the time the Rockets schedule became softer. In any case, we don't need this year's games to know that Adelman is capable of coaching a good defensive team given the right players: We've seen him do it while Yao Ming was healthy. I also don't think that McHale was brought in to be some sort of magical solution for defense.
What I have heard is that Morey was given marching orders to be competitive. I have never heard that Les made Morey sign Dalembert. The decision to target Dalembert was Morey's decision.... just like Morey targeted Nene prior to the Gasol fall out, and the Rockets attempt to trade up for Jonas Valanciunas last year, and tried to deal for Tyson Chandler before the deal fell through.
Kwame is a terrible offensive player, but he is actually a very good defender able to defend the 4 and 5.
I certainly agree with this. Alexander wanted a change, as simple, and as complicated, as that. Even DaDakota should agree with you on this one.
Chuck Hayes was/is an excellent defender. Overall, he was better than Dalembert. But, the thing about Chuck is that he's 6'5".... You can't ignore that, and neither could he. On rare occasion, against those towering bigs with good hands, he was helpless. They could just lean and hook the ball in over his head. Dalembert doesn't have that flaw. He'll lose focus, he doesn't have the same lateral quickness, or low center of gravity but he'll never be helpless. It's an interesting trade-off that you probably wouldn't take if there were another seven footer in the rotation but in our situation you almost have to.
Maybe, or maybe Les didn't like Adelman being critical of the moves the Rockets made at the end of the year. Adelman wanted control of the Rockets player moves and Morey wanted a coach on the same page as him, and the Rockets long term were concerned about the gulf between the coaching staff and the rest of the organization and Adelman's age. It isn't really anyones fault, but Adelman is not as innocent as some make him out to be.
I always thought he would do well with the rockets. Never did I think he would be a waste of a signing...
People who are against the Dalembert signing are those who want tanking. Dalembert isn't young. He's a stop-gap guy not in our future. Having him would win us a few more games thereby hurting our draft position. Just how some people here think, not saying I agree.
BOTH Hayes AND Dalembert are good for defense. No need to compare the two guys against each other. They bring different things to the table. I wish they didn't wallow in that Gasol trade and signed both Hayes and Dally.
We disagree. I haven't seen any evidence of that. I've seen numerous comments like yours and have never agreed with them. Adelman was asked by management to let them pick his assistants. A future Hall of Fame coach who has won more games than only a handful of coaches in NBA history being told by Aexander/Morey to let them pick assistants. Simply absurd. And Adelman wanted to come back. He said so himself. In my opinion, the whole assistant coach thing was to get Adelman to NOT want to return. His contract was up and A&M wanted an excuse not to offer him an extension. That was it. They knew Adelman would say no and they would have their "excuse." Whether hiring McHale was a good or bad decision has nothing to do with it. Adelman disagreeing with a personel move by Morey didn't have anything to do with it, not in my opinion. Coaches and management have these kinds of disagreements with each other in the league. It's just the nature of the beast. Cutting away all the crap, Alexander simply wanted a change. Perhaps he wanted a coach he liked more than Adelman. Perhaps he wanted one who would play better in the media. Who really knows? Ultimately, the man owns the team and can do what he wants, and in my opinion, that's what happened.
tyson chandler stop gap for dallas. the rockets have been looking for this defense since cato. and they got it without the baggage
Chuck Hayes 6'6... Dalembert 6'11... Hayes equals layups and blocks... Dalembert equals blocked shots and changed shots.
Coaches and GMs have disagreements on player personnel moves all the times. Adelman had been in the league for decades and certainly would understand this as part of the business. I believe Morey is smart enough to understand this too. I can't see how these disagreements would be so strong to sever a working relationship between two smart people.
