My God! I Can't Believe That I Am Going to Say This, But...

Moochie Norris is not that bad after all. And this is coming from someone who has admitted that they can't stand the "little dribbler".

However, after last night's performance, it seems obvious that Moochie is better suited to get the ball to the post (i.e. Yao) than Francis.

Now, before people go crazy, I am NOT saying that Moochie is a better PG than Francis. I am NOT saying that Moochie should be starting at the point and Francis should be at the 2 (this is when Mobley comes off the injured list). I am saying, though, there are some aspects to Moochie's game that I think he may be better than Francis in (there are not many) and one of those is getting the ball to the low post man.

Now, until Mobley comes back, I think that the Rockets would be better off in starting Moochie at the 1 and Francis at the 2, but that will probably never happen. Yet I think it makes us a better team when we have a Moochie-Francis backcourt compared to a Francis-Hawkins backcourt.

I have said this before and I'll say it again. Unless you have Michael Jordan in his prime on your team, championship teams win with the ball going through the low post. Yao finally gives us that presence since Olajuwon and if we keep feeding him the ball like Moochie did, I think we will continue to see performances like we did last night.

Hopefully, there won't be too much jealousy and guys will accept their roles for the betterment of the team. It looks like Moochie has already done that, and that is something that I thought I would never type.

It also could be noted, Moochies .452 shooting % is now higher than Steves or Cats. Moochies game off the bench is highly respected around the league,
hes a good back-up and dosnt deserve the abuse heaped on him previously.
Moochie has been instrumental in our last two wins and its good to see him getting some props here.

Granted, Moochie played a great game, but don't overlook the fact that the Rockets had a definite game plan and stuck to it.

Interesting how Mooch had his best shooting night on the same night Yao was dominating. Jumpers aren't contested quite as much & lanes are a little easier to drive when you have a solid, efficient game plan.

Yes, Moochie did great. But does anyone think he will be able to lead the Rockets past elite teams like the Kings, Lakers, and the Spurs on a consistent basis? It's nice that he did that one night, but I think he is more suited to be a short energy burst, sort of like how Scotty Brooks was several years ago. He provides a change of pace and can catch other teams off gaurd. Unfortunately I think Rudy is going to start using him as the 4th quarter PG, and I don't think he's a good enough PG to lead the Rockets to wins on a more consistent basis.

Yeah, everybody seems to forget what a sparkplug Moochie was his first season and a half with the Rockets. Despite what some may think, they didn't give him a contract because he was an unproductive cancer to the team. He actually was a quality contributor.

Last season he had a bad year for whatever reason. Sure, he had those couple of games where he played good, but for the most part he didn't look like the same player he did in his first two season with the Rockets. Maybe he was feeling pressure to perfrom due to the contract...I don't know.

And up to this point this season he has not looked very good either, but yesterday he looked like the Moochie of old! Sometimes players go through slumps in basketball much like hitters do in baseball. Let's hope he has snapped out of it!

I don't think that Moochie is inherently better at getting the ball into the low post.....I just think that he's more willing to do as instructed right now.

Francis can still be a stat-God; he just hasn't accepted the fact that he can use Yao to his benefit.

Yep, that's probably how about 50% of games are won. And to be quite honest, I don't even think the Rockets played THAT good.

I think that is what it boils down to in a nutshell.

Francis has to put aside any jealousy or rivalry (if it does exist) he has towards Yao.

The Franchise always talks about wanting to win and getting to the playoffs. Well, he has the avenue now in Yao. Is he willing to back that talk up?

I guess only time will tell.

Did anyone watch the video they have on rockets.com - that interview with Steve before the game? He was asked if he shouldn't try to get the ball more to Yao in the Spurs game and he said, well, this is not about getting the ball to one guy or something like that. Like Yao was just equal to all the other guys. He also kind of didn't seem to care too much that Yao was limited to only 3 shots against Sacramento and then he went on saying "we probably have to help him against San Antonio". He didn't look too happy to me.

If Moochie could consistently lead the Rockets past elite teams like the Kings, Lakers and Spurs...Would'nt that make him league MVP.
While RudyT did use Scottie Brooks to close out some games, sitting down Kenny Smith.......I dont see him sitting down Cat in favor of Moochie. But in games such as last nights, when Moochie has the hot hand, Rudy will sure extend his minutes.

But didn't Rudy T go with a 3 guard lineup in the 4th? I remember Moochie was usually running the point at the end of games last year.

Steve is still our PG no doubt and I believe that he will come around after the heat is on him to step up and be a PG. When he talked about what West and Jordan told him it all centered on him scoring and dominating the ball. Right now he is just caught in a catch 22 with himself. He wants to be the man and have all of the stats but he really does want to win. There is no denying that he really doesn't care too much for Yao to be the focal point but he will come around and join the gang soon. What choice does he have??? None, MAX player=team leader=get the job done=WIN.

We all were very frustrated about Moochie's play a few games back, frankly he looked like he didn't belong in the NBA. The last three or four games he has been playing a lot better. He deserved the criticism when he was playing bad and now he deserves the praises he is receiving after his performance last night.

Maybe it was the white shoes:D

So if Mooch stinks it up in the next game, who doesn't think he won't be hit with a BBS mass attack?? ;)

Thank goodness he's coMING around. From what I could gather of his comments after the game, which I wasn't able to see (****'in Spurs), we may look back at this as a season turning point. It seems that certain players WEREN'T sticking to Rudy's gameplan... that it wasn't just a lack of one, as some have suggested.

It's time for the team to stop playing to the level of my signature.

There was no skill involved, giving up the ball to Ming. Hawkins did it just fine too. Francis has a different agenda, and likes to create his own shot.

Moochie looks better because he can make his layups, and is not bad spotting up shooter (which he benefited from Ming's passing). BUT HE SUCKS at trying to make his own shot. Ming will find the open man, and everyone will start looking better (not just Moochie). Its Moochie's BONEHEAD plays that makes him a liability on the floor.

Moochie really started turning the switch during the Portland game. I wonder if Rudy sat down and talked with him about his over dribbling b/c from that game forward, Mooch became the type of backup PG this team needs. He was doing a very good job of bringing the ball up the court in an efficient manner and not over dribbling. Plus, his shots started to fall, and his FG pct has skyrocketed over the last few games. Basically, what I want from the backup PG on this team is someone that will just get the team into the offense early in the shot clock w/o turning the ball over much and defer to teammates esp making the sure the ball gets into the post enough.

If Mooch can continue playing as he has been in the last few games, I'll be happy with his contribution. When Mooch isnt over dribbling, he can get the Rockets into their offense w/o turning the ball over much and do it in a timely manner. I hope Mooch doesnt lapse back into his early season horrid play again.

    GO MOOCH!! GO MOOCH!!
Come on ya'll cheer him on. Keep it up Norris, you da man!

Could this be a total change in the Mooch's worth to the rox? Will Mooch thrive with a big man to count on and feed? Let's hope so.

Of course if you start sucking it up, we at the clutch bbs will have to kick your a$$ again.

Moochie's not a bad pg, I still wanna see what tito maddox can do though, and if he's a decent pg... Norris might have to take the long walk, but not this season.. nope.. this season he's the backup pg we gotta count on. So let's hope Mr. Clutch can bring his A game.
