To hell with the Confederacy. They went against my country. Traitors in my eyes. And to make it worse was the issue of what they were fighting for. To make Confederate soldiers out to be victims is f%^*ing stupid. And yeah I agree with someone who said, on one level, its comparable to Germans celebrating their Nazi heritage. It was a horrible time for our country and not one I'm proud of as an American, but hey that's just me. What pisses me off most is the same $#!+heads who celebrate the Confederacy are usually the ones who get all up in arms when Hispanics show pride in their Mexican flags. Can't they just claim to be honoring the past. Both Mexico and the Confederate States were foreign countries. Sorry I'm late to this thread.
no problem. your opinion is correct and welcome. and i'm still so pissed off about the astros name change discussion that it's spilling over into this thread now.
Rim/aghast: I think my last statement is being reiterated above. And I never questioned the praise Lincoln receives in my post; I clearly implied that some things were good and some were bad and I stand firm in that opinion. What I dislike is deification the likes of which are all over public school history books - non-contextual slogans that don't really tell the whole story. Obviously you both have done more digging (so don't misread that last sentence as an insult) but I see your counterpoints not as a refutation of my position but a confirmation.
Your people did bad things, and they were conquered by the blue coats. You're not allowed to have pride in them.
