Why do we Rockets fans watch Rockets games when we suck?
    Same reason.

Loyalty, sort of a tribute since a lot of people that are Tmac fans have been since his Orlando/Raptors days.
Not to mention many fans do have a small bit of hope that he ends up making a full recovery or has a "one last hurrah!" sort of game. Lol.

I've been hoping for dude to pull through but honestly him or is body just can't handle it. Time to consider legit retirement or get healthy.. Whatever that is.

32 isn't that old. I guess I'm still in denial that a player than could once be mentioned in the same breath as Kobe Bryant can't even be a reliable, consistent 6th man.

I'm still holding out hope Yao will unretire in another month or so. More likely it will be Clutch's April Fool's joke. God he really got me when he said Dream came out retirement.

I don't care how he does in the regular season as long as he contributes in the playoffs. This is one of his last shots to do anything meaningful in the NBA. Notice I said it's a "shot"; I am not saying that he WILL contribute (though I hope that he does).

Hahaha, I remember reading that in class a few years ago. I always forget it's April Fools day, so I was sitting there doing my usual deal (reading clutchfans and not paying attention to Xie Lin Min talk endlessly about game theory), I see the headline and I go bizurk. My leg is shaking I was so excited, I called my dad right after class and he was like, "you're a moron, it's april fools day and that man is like 40." I was like what? Nooooooooo damn you Clutch you got me again!

Haha. Well it made perfect since on the surface which made it even better. It was the season Yao went down for the season, then Deke stepped in and we went on to win 22 games in a row. He was only 44 at the time and still in basketball shape. Not by NBA standards, but better than the majority of us.

Anyway, I was just looking at old McGrady stats. The man had a season averaging 40 MPG, shot 46% from the field, 39% on threes, 80% FTs, 32 points, 6.5 boards, and 5.5 assists. And only 2.5 turnovers. That's one of the greatest regular seasons in NBA history. That's why I still follow him. If that's lazy and no heart, I'd love to have seen what he could do if he actually tried. Kobe is known to work his ass off to perfect his craft. To McGrady basketball was more or less natural.

    bad analogy.

being a fan of team is completely different from being a fan of a player.
People become fans of a player because he usually displays some qualities that they like , like scoring or dunking.

There are more reasons why people are fans of teams than individuals. Mainly geographical reasons.

For example, all these people here 'cheering' for the Hawks are fake Hawks fans. They only watch cause a bench player is playing. They could care less if Atlanta is invaded by Zombies and they probably don't listen to Outkast or attend Freaknik.

Some of us are "cheering" for the hawks because we enjoyed watching mcgrady play at his best. Watching him on the court was exciting, and I admire some of the things he was able to do at his size with the ball and his body. Some players you admire the person, some you admire their all around game, some their unique talents.

The fact that mcgrady hasn't done much outside of a couple scoring championships and averaging the third most points in the playoffs behind MJ and AI, has taken his stock down in a lot of people. However, his accomplishments do not reflect his abilities.

So some of us root for him because we want to see him finally accomplish the things he was certainly capable of. Additionally, many of us enjoyed the fluidity in his game and when we see flashes of 'tmac' we are overcome with a nostalgic like feeling.

He is no longer with houston, so we don't root for him when it affects us. Unless you're just a houston fan and not a basketball fan, I don't understand why you don't see how other's enjoy watching tmac. We root for other players all the time, many here are Kobe, Rose, Hayes, Dwight, Nachbar, Francis, etc. fans, and we watch and root for them to win all the time. If we want to see mcgrady finally accomplish those things he hasn't we have to hope his team wins; he can only accomplish those things with the playoffs.

I was just explaining the difference between being a fan of a team vs a fan of just one player.

Atlanta Hawks fans, the real ones, are completely different from the TOFs.
The fact that some people don't get any reference I make to Atlanta shows that they care as much about Atlanta as much as they care about the North Pole.

I'll give you an example. A fellow Clutchfan mentioned that he went to watch the Lakers vs Rockets in LA a while back. There were some people who cheered Yao but never cheered any other Rockets when they scored.

Those people aren't Rocket fans even though they are rooting for one Rocket.

To me, the Laker fans probably have more in common with the Rocket fans as opposed to the fans who root for one player.

I'm pretty sure there are only a few, if any, Hawks fans here. No one claims to be an Atlanta fan just because McGrady is there now. We watch their games because McGrady is there now, but the only reason we give a sht is because we like McGrady and for McGrady to accomplish the things he hasn't (win a playoff round) his team must win. Therefore, I root for the Hawks to win, but I don't really care if they don't. I am not disturbed, annoyed, or slightly depressed when they lose or McGrady doesn't have a good game, like I am with the Rockets.

The Yao thing is completely different. There are more YOFs by definition than TOFs here. Yao was a influential player, bringing the game to 2 billion people. Naturally Chinese people are going to associate with Yao and cheer for him. Those that aren't from Houston, or haven't watched basketball for a long time wouldn't care about the Rockets, they only would care about Yao, that's all they know. I don't have a problem with that, some of them were converted to true Rocket fans, the others either stick around to reminisce or disappear.

I doubt there are many people who migrated to clutchfans when McGrady was traded here.

We know what it means to be a fan of a player and a fan of a team. No one here confuses the two, but you. We are rooting for McGrady, not the Hawks. We know this, who has made this unclear? Who here has commented on how frustrating Larry Drews rotation has been, or the organizations committment to its players, or their charitable contributions, or blah blah blah that doesn't have to do with McGrady? Not many, if any. Everything here is about McGrady.

    We like McGrady

    We watch McGrady

    We comment about McGrady

I guarentee you that no one here puts their allegiance to McGrady above the Rockets. I think I am the biggest McGrady fan here and I don't even do that. We are Rockets fans, but we are also basketball fans. We have every right to cheer for players who made the game special, and Tmac certainly was a special player.

You'll likely point out that he WAS a special player, and my response, as always goes something like this...
VY was a special player in college. EVERYONE knows this. When he went pro you could legitimately question is ability to perform at such a level in the NFL, but in college, you could not deny his dominance.

Not only was he dominant, he was fun to watch. He made ridiculous moves for his size. He was deceptively fast and quick, but strong enough to bounce of players and break tackles. It was awe-inspiring to watch him play in college. Now he is in the pros and he sits on the bench. Despite this I checked the Eagles depth chart every Sunday to see if Vick was out because I missed watching VY be VY. I hope to see him make a spectacular play, an epic comeback, or a long run.

The same goes for McGrady, l check to see if he is playing, if he is I watch. If he doesn't play much in the first half I stop watching. I have no real interest in the Hawks, I want to see McGrady make a Tmac move, because it brings back nostalgic feelings that I miss.

I don't think I should be criticized for this everytime I make a comment about McGrady. I don't think I should be troubled by every Tracy hater anytime I come to a thread dedicated to his performance with his new team.

Just my thoughts. Prolly don't matter much to you
