Ewing to Houston?

Andy Katz of ESPN said something interesting. He said that Ewing would be getting a "tryout" in Seattle deciding whether he would stay in Seattle after this year or jump to Houston? when Hakeem retires. Must be uninformed but just thought I'd meniton it.

I was just about to post the same thing. What is Andy Katz smoking? Obviously it's just speculation, but why would we tie up our cap space for the next year in an old center who won't contribute to the future of the team? All he'd do is hold back the younger guys like Cato and Collier. You'd think some of these "expert" writers would think a little bit.

Maybe Andy Katz is thinking Mo Taylor instead of Ewing? Considering that Seattle and Houston are 2 teams already under the cap for next year and 2 teams that have need of a PF (if the Ewing deal goes through) - maybe he was speculating that Mo will "tryout" in Seattle for a year then skip to Houston next year... and maybe he got himself so confused that he started saying that Ewing was the one doing the tryout...

..... or maybe I can't help him with his brain malfunction....

He was definitely talking about Ewing, but I was thinking, and it may not be a bad idea. He could play here for two years, then retire in the 2003 offseason, leaving us caproom in the only good crop of free agents in sight. This is the first year the new rookie contracts will open up players, if they sign 1 year contracts when they are restricted. I saw a list of other players in this crop and it is really something special, better than this year. Having him would put us in the playoffs for those years while we wait for a free agent payday.

Yeah, I'm sure Houston would love an aging center on a youthful, rebuilding team.

Oops, we already have one. [IMG] I don't think we'll need a new one next year...

I think he meant MoTay, as Dr stated. Ewing doesn't need to do any "trying out", everyone knows what he can do. If Mo signs for 1 year, he is under a lot of pressure to put up some good numbers this season. He is not in clipperland anymore.

Once again, Mo's name didn't even come up in that conversation. He was definitely talking about Ewing, and the "tryout" was proving that at almost 40 he still can hack it in the League.

I was just trying to provide some sanity into Andy Katz insight.... doesn't make any sense!!

Surely Ewing would have to prove himself every year that he can still play??

With all respects, I think Patrick will be very tired after a season of Shaq, Robinson, Sabonis/Kemp/J.O'Neal, Olawokandi/Kloss, Ostertag (hate to say it, but he does a good job on Dream), Vlade/Pollard/Jabari, and some of the 4's who play some 5 -Duncan, McDyess, 'Sheed, Funderburke, Samaki Walker and Karl Malone.

Man, that list made me tired just typing it.

Welcome to the Western Conference, Mr. Ewing. And you can ignore that Katz guy - he's on something.

You're missing two centers on that list: Hakeem Olajuwon and Kelvin Cato.

Sorry......I forget 2 of MY favorites in making a point. Dream and Cato will put some wear on Patrick's body for *sure*!

I have (often) and I think he would be a challenge for Ewing to shoot over. Somewhat like Dream and Ostertag.

Another missing from your list is that Jason Collier guy. Man he can bang with the best of them. I'd be surprised to see many centers uninjured from the West come seasons end. Collier will knock them all senseless!!

    DrN,

I agree. That Collier fellow makes Matt Geiger, Rik Smits, Sam Perkins, John Amechi, Vitally Potapenko, Dragan Tarlac, Ben Wallace, Mikki Moore, Terry Mills, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Ervin Johnson, Joel Pryzbilla, Jim McIlvaine, Kevin Willis, Michael Stewart, Chris Mihm and the rest of the potent Eastern Conference Centers look pretty bad. I am sure Ewing will have an incredible season since he does not have to face this murderers row any longer!

Somebody pinch me and tell me I'm dreaming (or having nightmares). The BBS has gone from mundane to downright bizarre. Patrick Ewing a Rocket? Andy's been smokin' the whacky tabacky.

    RocketsPimp,
The trout trophy belongs to anyone who thinks Ewing will be a Rocket and/or believes the Eastern Conference is a tougher conference for Centers!

Is there a way to smack a BBS poster with a trout?
