Well, if there is any kind of silver lining from this blockbuster Falk deal with Taylor, Ewing, Baker, Rice, Laetnner and scrubs getting traded, without the Rockets, it might be what's happening to Detroit. Total self-destruction! So now we have to ask ourselves about the Detroit pick they owe us. Because if we somehow got it next year, it would be a bonanza for us. I've heard all sorts of stuff over this last couple years, but nothing ever gets absolutely cleared up. Any possibility Clutch in getting the final word about this, and not just hearsay? Issues:
[*]When does it have to be given to us? I've heard anywhere from next year to 6 more years. Clutch said it was 2002, and most recently 2003. [*]Does it have to be their pick, or can they give us one from another team? I've heard that since it was given to us from Milwaukee, that it would have to be theirs. But I've also read that it could be any pick they want to give us. [*]Is it lottery protected? I've always heard its not, but do we know for sure?[/list=a] So, if it has to be Detroit's pick, and we get it next year (2001), it is wonderful for Houston, since they'll really suck, and we should get a great player next year. Its pretty good, even if its the following year (2002), since they'll still really suck. If they can convey us a different pick, or it's not for another 4 to 6 years, then this all makes absolutely no difference, and there is no silver lining to these possible blockbuster trades supposedly going down. But can someone like Clutch or Doc Rocket confirm this for absolutely sure, and maybe it would be good to post this somewhere on the site, so we quit asking about this? I checked and there were like 84 threads already on this subject, without ever clearly confirming the facts. ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
Is Detroit's pick Houston's or not? My comments in this thread ar eprobably the most accurate because it was not too long after speaking with someone in the Rockets organization on this. Keep in mind: Detroit sucking probably doesn't do us too much good -- that pick can be acquired by the Pistons from say a top contender in this league (so the pick is late first round) and then given to us to meet the requirements for conveying the pick. Oh what do you know, if the Pistons pull this 4-team deal off, they get first rounders from the LA Lakers and New York Knicks. Damn ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Getting a pick is a big reason for Detroit to do this trade. It allows them to dump a non too valuable pick on the Rockets and it allows them to take Vancouver's pick (owed to Detroit and guaranteed top 18) instead of having to trade it off. ------------------
Clutch you nailed that one alright b/c this is from the Houston Chronicle this morning 'The Pistons, who owe the Rockets a first-round draft pick, would have also received future first-round picks from the Lakers and Knicks, either of which would satisfy their obligation to the Rockets.' ------------------ Go Rockets and Comets! Stay in Houston!
RATS! but thanks, Clutch, that's good to know. Sorry I didn't find the earlier thread. You might want to consider posting that somewhere on the site for reference. I would think that is something people always are wondering about. Although we might end up with less useless threads. ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
