Nobody is giving the 6ers love..... They have a record of 7-2 Evan Turner had a near triple double. Brand is playing ok again. T.Young, JHoliday, Vucevic, LWilliams.....good team
Yeah they're 7-2... but who have they played? Portland, Phoenix, Utah, Golden State, New Orleans, Detroit, Toronto, and Indiana. The only decent team there is Portland. Unless you want to include GS and Indiana, which didn't have Monta Ellis and Danny Granger.
I just wanted some attention towards the team....folks .....did not say they were contending or great team.... Just thought a 6 game winning streak is impressive
A 6 game winning streak against GS (no Monta), NOH, DET, TOR, IND (no Granger), & SAC is impressive? Sure...
Doesn't matter, Phoenix, Utah, GS, NO and Pacers can still play even without those you mentioned. Give credit where credit is due
yeah it is . I do think getting ready for a shortened season is impressive, shows how prepared a team is during the lockout. Getting to a good start, no matter how good the opponent is, is impressive. It's still NBA competition, no Dleague Last time I checked.... Monta is not a superstar....sure is Top 4 SG, and Granger is not the Allstar he once was..... so you are saying they can't win because of one individual that is not a superstar?
Turner is adjusting to what they are playing and they will going to get better from month to month if he'll be consistent on his rise
Beating Golden State and New Orleans on the road, and then winning 4 straight at HOME against horrible teams is not impressive. Sure it looks good on paper, but that's about it. and GS not having Monta isn't a big deal? He's only putting up 24 PPG and 8 APG this season...
No. A scorer is the least man that is making them much better. Monta dropped 38 in SanAntonio and they still couldn't win it out.
Yeh im pretty surprised as well. Though they went against bad teams (overall), its difficult to sustain wins in these b2b situations, even if the opposition sucks. kudos Philly! However, in the end they will probably be a 0.500 team...
I've caught most of their games. They're pretty good, better than last year. Doug Collins has them playing really, really good defense. They should finish with a win total in the high-30s.
I was hoping for Jrue Holiday to step into the conversation for top 5 PG's. I thought he'd carry his stellar playoff performance onto the regular season this year. It doesn't look like he's going to be able to do that with Iguodala, Williams, and Turner handling the ball as much as they do.
they played against mediocre teams it might be good for they confidence if they know how to use it against tougher teams
I have not seen much of their games, but the biggest plus should be Turner's continued improvement. As expected when he came out, he is proving to be fairly well rounded. He just still needs to become a better and more aggressive scorer. And he's still hasn't hit a three yet. he's not taking a ton, but still, for his position, he's going to have to become a better shooter. on the flip side, as noted, their schedule has been ridiculously weak. Bad teams, and no back to back to back yet. They've played 5 road games vs. only 4 home games, but both sets have been streaks - 5 in a row on the road, then 4 in a row at home. To me, this is a lot easier than the in and out. We all know the Rockets have played a tougher schedule, but for comparison purposes, they do have one set of back-back-back already, have played 6 of 9 road games, against much much better competition, with the yo-yo'ing of home and away games. the sixers will definitely come back down to earth... but anything that makes the Knicks finish lower in the eastern conference is a great thing! also, Iguodala has been playing efficiently, but continues to slide. PPG lower for the 4th year in a row, assists lowest they've been since 06-07. Still a solid all around player, and his PER is actually up, given he's shooting the three at a great clip, but his trade value seems to be declining further. A couple of years back they probably could have gotten a solid return for him.
I think what's interesting about this Philly team is that they are not just winning games, but blowing out the opposition. Basketball-reference.com has a "power ranking" kind of system that accounts for both margin of victory and strength of schedule, it's called the "SOS" or "Simple Rating System" http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2012.html Philly is currently #1 right now, having the highest margin of victory ("MOV") by far (+16) but facing a subpar set of opponents (their strength of schedule is ranked #20 out of 30 teams, pretty soft). Of course, it is early in the season and there is a small sample size and other factors such as the fact that a bunch of their opponents have significant players missing when they faced Philly. However, it seems that Philly is a solid playoff team and may well end up with 1st round home court advantage for the playoffs.
