Wow, when you go on someone's bandwagon you don't just get a seat, you kick the driver out and start driving the damn thing yourself. Yes, yes Rubio is a better passer and offense set up man (which is basically the same thing). In fact, Rubio's playmaking is on the "genius" scale, Lowry's is just on "below all star level". But defense and rebounding are not anything to sneeze at, those are two very important components in any player's game. Lowry's D and rebounding are really good, and compare favorably to Jason Kidd. And its not just the rebounding and D, Lowry is also the better shooter and scorer. So basically Rubio is a lot better at playmaking, Lowry is a lot better at everything else. I'm not hating on Rubio, but the fact is Lowry is leagues ahead of him at this point, and I strongly suspect Lowry will be the better player for their entire careers. Lowry may be shorter, but he is stronger, more athletic, and won't be bullied in the post like Rubio can be.
Lets see how Rubio does setting teammates up in a half court offense. Once the playoffs begin the game is going to slow down, and running the half court set is paramount. Rubio struggled in the half court in Europe.
That's cause he can't shoot, and he's so thin other guys can post him up and bully him. Anyway I dunno if Rubio will ever play in a half court setting, the R&R system of RA ensures the team will always find a way to score based on the opportunity given. Maybe in the playoffs, if they manage to get 8th seed against the Blazers, Memphis, Dallas, Lakers or OKC.
Playoffs? Let's see how things go after 20-30 games when teams get a good read on Rubio and adjust to him. Right now, he has the element of surprise & newness because his tendencies are unique.
you're crazy, i'm not even arguing this. anyway, the usual suspects have arrived. I want to see rubio succeed also, now that i've seen him on an nba court, at least highlights. i didn't think he was fast enough in the olympics. anyway, you severly devalue how good lowry and other point guards are.
I cannot stand the comments about his weak D. Usually other PG's struglled offensively when playing against Rubioin Europe. ANd about half-court offense. He did not strugle when setting plays. 3.5 (4.1 year before) per 22 minutes Euroleague means approx. 7 assists per 22 minutes in NBA (or approx. 15 assists per 48 minutes) due to different rules of counting assists - This is not a struggle!! Kid was just awful when attacking induvidually (jumpshots, drives & etc.).
This rubio vs lowry thing is ridiculous. Yes I do think lowry is the better player at this stage mainly due to his experience and toughness. But I would trade lowry for rubio in a heartbeat. Lowry is no where as good as rubio at the age of 21.
Watching this game tonight against the Bulls. Starters: Ridnour Ellington Wes Johnson Darko Love went down by 12 in the first quarter. Rubio and JJ come in. Randolph for Darko. Williams comes in. They get back in it. Now they are within 3 in the 3rd quarter. Second half starters: Rubio Ridnour Williams Randolph Love Now that is an interesting lineup, one that I like very much. Anthony Randolph may just have found his nitch playing the 5 in Minny. He looks great.
I guess the NBA and Euroball are different enough where Rubio can struggle in Europe and excel here. Europe seems to emphasize outside shooting more while the NBA is friendly to penetrating guards.
Announcer on Rubio: "Don't be fooled by that ..beautiful face, this guy is an assassin." Did I just hear that? That's homerism going out of bounds.
