i know there are a ton of threads for the steve bashers out here, but i thought i might make a new one so people would think about this. the rockets have a much more simple problem that people seem to not be pointing out. its the fact that the team won't shoot the ball when they have an open shot! everyone is criticizing steve, but his teammates don't help him enough and thats what the real problem is. instead of taking a wide open jumper about 2 steps inside the 3 point line our guys will hold the ball for a few seconds until they are guarded or try to drive it in for a closer shot. the only players who have the ability to drive like that are steve and cat. steve and yao do a great job at distributing the ball its just that when they do make good passes to the wide open guys then its the people who should be shooting that mess it up. do you guys even listen to how bill and calvin point out that steve could have had a lot more assists a game if the team was hitting its wide open shots? well they are right, because thats the bigger problem with the houston offense. steve and yao are great passers...but other guys on our team like MoT, EG, and KT really aren't great for a motion type offense. look at the kings and how they are always moving around and doing something. our guys seem to prefer to be standing around. now whether you can blame that on rudy or on the players is debatable. i think its more of a players problem because if you see yao without the ball he is always trying to do something. where as other guys are not. yao has not had a lot of coaching under rudy so it makes me wonder how much he can actually do with what he has. but i dunno thats just my opinion....tell me what you guys think...
So far this season , the Rockets shooting % is higher than our opponents. Rockets .439 Opponents .423 That said, Kt, Eddie, MoT, JHawk, Rice, and Cat are ALL at or below the opponents shooting %. With opponents playing more and more zone defense in every game this year..... the ability to hit the wide open outside shots that a zones give up is becoming more important. IMHO this is a problem that will solve its self as the Rockets get some continuity in their offense. A settled rotation would be a good start.
