So if Yates takes us to the AFC championship game, do we trade Schaub?

Unless he wins it, it is too easy to say Schaub being injured is the reason the Texans were eliminated.

Texans won't get a first round pick for Yates, but they easily can for Schaub. Redskins at the top of that list. Then use that pick for the next Andre...

If you were the Redskins would you give the 5th overall pick in the draft for Schaub?

At that point you would have to consider it, but not right now, Schaub is still a lot better than Yates or Leinert...

Yes, if the Redskins would give up that pick I would trade him right now. However, I think we can only get a late first at most. New England was only able to get a 2nd out of Matt Cassell.

Schaub and Kyle Shanahan are familiar (obviously) with each other and they don't have a QB. Schaub would do well in their system. Maybe a swap of firsts + more picks from the Redskins. IDK, but it all depends on how well Yates plays.

NFL always overates its picks. I doubt they can get more than a 2nd so I'd say no...

By the way, the Texans should contend for years, most contending teams do not trade away their starting QB....without a GREAT showing by their backups....

Yates has been mediocre so far.

Slow your roll down guy. One game at a time. We'll see about that in the off season. Don't forgot Pro-bowl MVP last year was Matt Schuab. T.J Yates has a lot of potential also. Remember the year Matt cassel after replacing brady that one year. ( I am not comparing brady to schuab or cassel to yates) But it could be a similar situation like that. But as for now, let just enjoy this ride and support this QB.

He is a ROOKIE. Don't forget that. Matt schuab was once a back up QB also.

Yates is very lucky he wasn't picked off 3 times in the Bengals game, guy overthrows constantly.

If Yates goes far and improves along the way, there definitely will be QB controversy, no doubt. Right now, Schaub is clearly better but results are everything.

Agreed, and I like his growth potential esp in the last game. Like it or not, schaub is not gonna get much better from here on out. What we see is what we get, and even with Johnson / Foster / Daniels / O-line, no one would put him up in the elite qb category (Brady, Brees, P.Manning, Rodgers) or almost elite (E.Manning, Rothlesburger).

Obviously can't compare Yates to those guys yet, but I liked what I saw last night enough to root for him to continue to improve.

Fully agreed with the consensus so far. If we win a few more games and Yates is a big reason why, then we'll talk. Premature thread otherwise.

I can also argue the other way and say that Bledsoe was a 4x Pro Bowl QB who led his team to the Superbowl vs Schaub - who hasn't even gone to the playoffs yet. Also, pretty sure there has to be an adjustment for QBR over time as it was much harder to pass for crazy numbers 10 years ago.

It's remarkable that Yates has only played in 3/8th of a season and has improved enough to win our first playoff game. Frankly, I don't think a healthy Schaub would have outplayed Yates last night. (Not to imply that Yates won the football game for us, cause the defense and running game was pretty freaking amazing)

Hey I'm just jumping on the bandwagon a little earlier than you guys and will get bragging rights if I'm right. :)

If I'm wrong - there's always a healthy Schaub next season, so I won't be too upset

Lets not forget the Bengals got 2 first round picks for Carson Palmer.

Schaub should definitely be worth at least 1 first round pick.

Yates has a weak arm but plays within himself most of the time. Put him on last year's team with last year's D and this wouldn't even be up for discussion. We did lose the last 3 reg. season games.

That being said, it's a great problem to have so I've got no problem entertaining the question.
