    According to one website:

Hey all of you web surfers. Just thought I'd take a breather from my normal EGM duties to drop you a line about something I recently caught wind of. It's so big it couldn't wait for the magazine: console price drops. That's right, folks...my Q-spies are telling me that all three hardware platforms may see price drops for this holiday season. PS2 and Xbox are said to drop to $150 and GameCube will fall to a mere $100. Yes folks, 100 bucks -- at that price, why not pick up a few?
Nothing's confirmed just yet, but with Thanksgiving right around the corner, there's a good chance these price drops will happen within the next week or so.

Instead of fretting, maybe you should get a Gameboy Advance, it's a lot cheaper, and the games are fun! Ever heard of Golden Sun or Breath of Fire I/II?

    Now he tells me.

Actually, I made my final decision last night and picked up a Gamecube! :)

I got the bundle package which included the system, memory card & Super Mario Sunshine. Plus, with a new system purchase, they give you either a free rental or $5 off the price of a previously played game, so I picked up Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. I'm also going to get Metroid Prime sometime this month.

All told, I got a Gamecube, memory card and two games for the price of a PS2 & memory card with no games. Pretty sweet.

It's too bad there aren't many RPGs, but I hear Skies of Arcadia is going to be released on the Cube soon, so it isn't a total loss in that department.

Eternal Darkness is pretty cool and Mario Sunshine is... well, bright.

This new controller is going to take some getting used to, though.

Good decision. GameCube is the way to go. I've never looked back after getting mine. It may not have the number of games the PS2 has, but its elite games are just that, elite. I can't wait to get Metroid Prime, but I'm poor right now so I'm holding out until Christmas.

Elite games?? if you mean elite as in kiddy games, i mean i liked mario games but that was when i was little, i still like to play the classics, but i dont think i will ever buy another mario game. PS2 would of been the way to go, i hear the gamecubes online thing is dumb, it wont have GTA, but thats just my opinion. Game on!

Way to go out on a limb and actually try something you might think sucks. Mario on the Gamecube was enjoyable. On the 64, it was amazing. I must have played and beat that game three or four times...and each time it was just as fun. You'll never know, though, because you won't give it a try.

Pikmin would be a good example on GameCube. Aesthetically, it just looks like a beautifully done "kiddy game" But if you actually play it, it is an extremly interesting game in terms of gameplay - really enjoyable, makes you think and excellent replay value.

Of course, this isn't to say that PS2 doesn't have good games...it does. But when you think about it, it and Xbox both have more unbalanced portfolios. I like mature games and I love sports games, but that's not all I want to play. GameCube has them and other interesting games, IMO.

i would actually like to buy a gamecube just to play mario games.

i have more fun playing old games on my NES than I do playing games on my PS2.

maybe i'm living in the past and am at a point in my life that i want to relive my childhood, but I think a gamecube would be a lot of fun.

maybe i'll pick one up after the next price drop.

I didnt say it wasnt going to not be enjoyable i mean i even said i like playing the classics, N64 was pretty good too, but beating 3 or 4 times?? that would get boring unless u took like a couple months break in between or somthing, if i find someone that has a gamecube i will give it a try but i dont anyone that has the gamecube, i know gamecube prob isnt bad but the games are not my taste, Resident Evil was good but its getting to its end, i just dont see very many commercials for games that interest me in gamecube.

I know exactly what you mean. A few weeks ago, I had the irresistable urge to dig up my SNES and play Super Mario World. That was such a fun game. Games like Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden and Punch Out are all still regulars in my gaming rotation. Plus, to this day I remain the best Contra player on the planet, and that's not even an exagerration.

Frylock -- chill. You sound like an overanxious junior high kid. They're both great systems. The lame "it's cartoony so it's for kids" argument just doesn't fly. Ape Escape for PS1 had about as "kiddie" a style as possible, and yet had some of the best gameplay I've ever encountered.

'Sides, there's nothing childish about Eternal Darkness. That's one of the darkest, most macabre titles I have come across. :)

I think the point here is that writing a game off simply because they look "kiddy" is a copout. Compared to today's graphics, all of the old classic games look "kiddy." But long-term entertainment doesn't come from the number scantily-clad females or from the number of gallons of blood spilled every 30 seconds, it comes from the gameplay. Nintendo has a history of making games with excellent gameplay, and that is the main reason I bought my gamecube. The Zelda and Mario series alone was enough to get me go with the GC, and finding out later that another Metroid was to be made was simply gravy. But in the future, I highly suggest actually trying games before deciding they are not worth your time. You will miss out on far fewer excellent games that way.

GTA3 isn't then end all answer to get a PS2. Whenever I play it at my friend's apartment all I do is turn on the cheats and get 6 stars. The missions are interesting, if not highly repetitive.

I chose the Gamecube because of Metriod Prime AND because the multiplayer selection is far more superior to the PS2. I was leaning towards the Xbox for Halo multiplayer and Madden, but Gamecube's strengths:

-FPS, horror, unique Nintendo made games, and excellent multiplayer

were better than Xbox's (great PC developer support, best graphics, and decent multiplayer).

I'm waiting for a Smash Bros. Melee and Monkey Ball 2 price drop before I get those and I'm also eyeing Bomberman Generations for some classic nostalgia.

Eternal Darkness and Timesplitters 2 (multi console, 4 player multiplayer for Xbox and GC) look promising too.

    I'm college age, FYI.

Although I own 5 GC games (Super Mario Sunshine, TimeSplitters 2, Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil Zero, Metroid Prime), I'd get a GameCube just for Metroid Prime. The game is that good.

If you had posted this back in the spring or summer, I would have probably recommended the PS2. Now, GameCube's library is looking more and more impressive. Super Mario Sunshine is great (personally I like it a little more than Mario 64), and Metroid Prime is in my top 5 for best games ever. Plus, there's Zelda: The Wind Waker, which is still on track for February 2003, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle, Skies of Arcadia Legend, and more. PS2 still crushes GC in terms of RPGs, but the RPGs are slowly beginning to show up for the GC.

When I went to pick up a copy of Metroid Prime for my brother last Friday, I did a double take upon seeing all the Gamecube titles. The entire GC library has literally doubled in volume since the last time I went to buy a game (which was only a month and a half ago with Star Fox Adventures). I understand it's the holiday season (hence the sheer amount of new games on the shelves), and the amount of new games for the other consoles is also probably proportional. However, I'm totally stoked by both the amount of games available now (which almost tops that of the whole N64 library) and the prospects of upcoming games for the GC. Next on my list is LOTR: The Two Towers. Then it's 1080: White Storm. Then, it's the new Zelda game (and pure gaming nirvana). The list goes on and on...

Whomever thinks GameCube is for kids only is just flat out WRONG !!

    Resident Evil, Metroid Prime etc..etc..etc..

Game Cube is a better graphical system and has the better quality games on it.

GTA Vice city is great, but just wait for it to come out on the PC it is better on the PC anyway.

    DaDakota

PS. Super Monkey balls is great....and Mario Kart is just around the corner.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is next on my list after Metroid. Then I'd like to grab Animal Crossing and Tony Hawk 4. Those, along with Eternal Darkness and Mario Sunshine should be enough to keep me busy for a while.

Or at least until Zelda and Skies of Arcadia come out. :)
