Will the Rockets dump one of their forwards?

I think we can all agree that the Rockets are front loaded at the forward position. It seems likely that the Rockets will try and make a roster move, if only to clear the log jam. It's also doubtful that the Rockets could trade Cato or Rice, due to their enormous contracts.

    That leaves

    M Taylor
    K Thomas
    E Griffin
    B Nachbar

Now it's my opinion that the Rockets would not trade EG, as his value isn't too high right now. What's the old rule - never trade a player when they are playing poorly. The Same goes for Nachbar, who only has a rookie contract anyway. Plus those two guys have lots of potential, but of course, potential doesn't win games. Just ask the Clippers.

That leaves KT, but this is his last contract year, so unless the Rockets do a sign and trade (not sure how that would work), trading KT for fair value will be difficult, but remember, KT is a free agent, and he might choose to play somewhere else anyway, as his minutes and touches are down this season, correct?

That leaves M Taylor, still recovering from his injury. He has a fat contract, and hasn't gotten enough minutes yet to showcase himself, so it's going to be hard to trade him, for a quality player, unless the pot is sweetened, or the Rockets take a "damaged" player in return.

So basically the Rockets are screwed. They have too many forwards, and there is already some grumbling about playing time, but most of the forwards are going to be difficult to dump, because either:

    1. contract is too expensive
    2. play is erratic
    3. upside still hasn't been determined - too risky to trade
    4. player is a free agent, so value is low
    5. player is old, or is recovering from major injury

It will be interesting to see how the Rockets can keep that many players happy, with only so many minutes to go around, and trading any of them could proove difficult at best, unless the Rockets are willing to accept a player with a bad reputation, or fat contract, or gimped health in return.

Pretty good summary of our situation. Any trade we make right now probably wouldn't do us any good. This board is filled with people's fantasies, but the reality of what we could get wouldn't be so pretty.

Until Griffin can do anything besides block a few hots and hit some 3's, I do not see any trades happening(unless Griffin is included in the deal).

Good comment...its true we are definitely overloaded at the Forward pos. but at lest we now have a full roster that Rudy can use to make many different combinations. The players crying for P will relax once we take off and become a major contender in the West (its way too soon to say that now) So I dont forsee any trades either, we will just have to learn to work with what we've got....
