Almost everything on modern tv is trash, besides documentaries, seinfeld re-runs, always sunny, the news, How I Met Your Mother, and sports I don't watch anything else.
I love Nick Swardson but I have to nominate And to the guy that listed Lost Burn Notice and Sunny... I could understand somebody not liking them, but I can't see how somebody could believe that they are the worst shows ever.
At this point, I don"t even bother with live TV. If a show generates a buzz and folks start talking about it, I give it a shot. Even then, I don't think I watch more than 6 hrs of TV a week, excluding sports. 90% of what's made, especially on Network TV, is garbage. They throw crap against the wall and see if it sticks. They don't even worry about quality, given how Arrested Development went. If something's dirt cheap and makes a little money even if it is weak....fine by them. Why spend tons of money backing an expensive vision like LOST or other SciFi/action, when you can churn out Burn Notice on a shoestring budget. I've got better things to do with my time.
Rules of thumb are just simple rules that are easily applied, as opposed to trying to be right 100% of the time. You can make your own rules of thumb, so long as they have that use. Thanks, I will. I actually wasn't defending it at all. I was just saying that if you want to try to criticize a show, you might want to go after a part of the show that wouldn't be cut in syndication. What if I like both Community and New Girl and Walking Dead? Try not to make assumptions about people because they don't agree with your every opinion. None of it is actually better or worse than anything else, it is all just personal taste. The best we can do is hope enough people like the same things we do to keep them on the air. Also, anyone who defines themselves by which television shows they prefer is probably a loser (see: trekkies, browncoats, gleeks, etc.)
i was speaking generally, if it doesn't apply to you, no assumptions were made. if you disagree with the point it should be because you disagree with the point, not because you think I'm speaking directly to your sensibilities.
I expected it to be bad, but I watched the premiere of Emeril's sitcom and managed to be surprised by how utterly wretched it was.
i'm getting hooked on my two favorite reality shows again: NHL and NBA. apart from that, Modern Family continues to impress. With PVR and net streams, there's no reason to watch bad TV. A thread here put me on to Big Bang Theory, so I'll have to watch that -- the hour of youtube clips was a good intro.
Sitcoms are pretty bad right now. There is not a single one I have to watch. I would rather watch King of Queens, and Seinfeld re-runs than any of the current shows. Oh, and as far as worst show ever, its right up there with some of the worst...Bobs's Burgers! WTF was up that show it was horrible IMO.
complete fallacy. The programming on TV today is of higher quality than ever. I have a no CBS rule myslef
<iframe width="853" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/AdOb5gsSZDI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> So bad!
I think if you loosen up the decency standards a bit on network and UHF television you could give them the freedom to market to specific audiences and make real money on one or two quality programs or niches, rather than just having to mass produce crime or medical shows so you talk can about sex or violence, or reality shows so you can bleep-swear.
Someone tell me how this is a sports show? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NN51WpQvajA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
What exactly are you hoping to accomplish by crapping all over the grave of Community? You and your ilk have already won the war; the show has already been banished to limbo. To me, the primary message of the show has really evolved into the mantra that being a fanboy of things is OK, even if others think you're weird, or don't share the same passion for something. It's OK to be obsessive over something that most people just won't understand, and over and over again the show hammers home the fact that liking something just for social status is incredibly empty and shallow. Glad you chose to use a 30 second outro that a. got a chuckle out of me, considering it combined 4 of the show's most recognizable running jokes, b. is something that South Park, unarguably one of the greatest and most influential shows in recent history also did. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mnzVq2t7bi4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I'm not really sure. It isn't informative or entertaining. Although I do like the fact that every time it comes on I turn off the TV and do something productive.
You sound similar to me. The only thing I really watch on TV is the (local/national/alternative) news, cartoons (old children shows), sports, and mostly movies on premium channels and pseudo movie channels. Though, I do watch shows on AMC, FX, and sometimes, HBO. That's it.
Adult-aged men looking for a social and emotional outlet, that sounds like a sports show to me. Right up to the forced, awkward father-son bonding.
