1992 Dream Team would man handle the "new" Dream Team. The new team may be a little bit more athletic but the old team plays very physical and they have plenty of athleticism themselves. That would not even be a close one.

I dunno. Most NBA players' primes are 27-31ish for reasons of experience and physical development. Pretty much everyone on that Dream Team was in the middle or possibly leaning towards the end of their absolute prime age. Most of most of the 2012 players are just now getting into the prime age range.

Kobe's best years were seasons 10 and 11 at ages 27 and 28.

I think I mentioned this last year or the year before. The 2012 team will be awesome and it's a worthy comparison. Any of the PGs + Wade, KD, LeBron and Howard is as good as it gets. We will truly see the best U.S. players on the floor at the same time.

The main difference between this summer and 1992 is the level of competition. Unless they totally lose focus, the U.S. should beat down every team they face. I don't expect the semifinal and final to be close.

MJ, Magic and Bird (who was slowed at the time) are unique players, but the bottom-tier guys like Laettner and Mullin wouldn't be selected for 2012.

The rule changes that were implemented in FIBA will also benefit Team USA this time.

Other than Howard the 2012 team doesn't have much of a post-presence. They'd have a hard time against Robinson and Ewing (two top 10 centers) and Barkley/Malone (top 4 PFs) not to mention magic and bird.

1992 way more skill and some athleticism

    2012 product of athleticism/limited skill.

He was not eligible. He had played for Nigeria before becoming a US citizen and had to be cleared. He played for a later team once he was eligible.

Lebron James should just keep his mouth shut. This kid is everything that's wrong with the nba now. true story.

Team vs. Team i think the dream team still takes it easy.

God LeBron is making it harder and harder to like him.

D.Wade on the otherhand has so much more respect.

This is 1992, Jordan/Pippen/Drexler/Robinson didn't have as many rings after.

I think Drazen Petrovic would have something to say about that...

From a pure basketball standpoint, I agree they need more C depth behind Dwight. My vote would probably be for Tyson Chandler to come back to add more shotblocking, because we all know that group of PF's (Bosh, Love, Griffin) ain't gonna do much on that end.

Comparing the two teams...1992 has 2012 at every position except SF, and that's only because Bird was old.

    Magic/Stockton > Rose/Paul/Williams
    Jordan > Hahahaha
    Old Bird < Lebron
Barkley, Malone > Bosh, Love, Blake
    Ewing, Robinson > Dwight, TBA

regarding rings...Magic and Bird would have had 8 rings each if either of them didn't exist to compete. Between the two...they won 8. So total numbers are still the same.

But just for the record...MJ never had that level of competition. Magic and Bird would be wearing 8 rings, except they had to share them.

I agree and I'd even say Bird/Pippen>Lebron on a super team like that. They dominated without having to have the ball in their hands. They can be much better complementary players than Lebron can.
