08/20-SEATTLE SAYS NO- The Seattle Sonics have not closed the door to a trade with NY for Patrick Ewing. They just simply said not really interested. Its always important to listen, but what the deal would cost the Sonics, and what they would get back has Wally Walker back peddling. See if Walker and company had not seen Vin Baker slimmed down abit, and working hard this summer, he'd have been in New York already. The appeal to Vin is that once, not too long ago he was one of the best Power Forwards in the league, and the Sonics feel that he can get back to that form. One opinion is that Vin and his agent see a dire need to impress on the Olympic stage as being important for Vin's future success , hoping it might help erase the horrible season he had with Seattle. This concept has had him working very hard this summer. The Sonics are still exploring options and the Vin Baker door is not closed, but its far from open. The Sonics are still looking to part with Vernon Maxwell and Ruben Patterson. Maxwell could be had cheap, but reports of a mid-season run in with Gary Payton that had Payton looking for a chair to throw at Vernon, and Vernon looking for a free weight to bludgeon Gary with, have the league saying he can be had for next to nothing, because the Sonics have to move him. The Ruben Patterson situation is a bit more complicated, Rueben came to Seattle cheaply, and has been very impressive, but part of the deal to Rashard Lewis was he had to get more minutes, which during the season was a source of conflict within the Sonics, as Patterson wants those minutes too. The Sonics have said time and time again, they don't want to move him, but understand they might to meet Rashard's minutes and lessen the chance for a blow up with Patterson.

In the "Phoenix says No" Section for today it seems that the Seattle deal is still very possible, and dependent upon Falk.
