Seeing just another Tmac thread again reminds me of the high schoolers that went straight to the NBA Who are/were significant members of the Houston Rockets that came straight out of High School? Discuss
Dang it, Moses and Willoughby were the two I was going to name...and the only two that come to mind. Would Llull count? What about D-Mo? Donte Greene and Eddie Griffin only played one year in college so they are close... DD
Moses Jackie Butler was in HS when he declared for the draft He didn't play a minute for Rockets but his salary brought Scola in Houston, so he is significant
Don't believe that the Rox have ever had a player directly out of HS. A few have played here as a second stop. For years the team wouldn't even draft an early-entry canddate. Finally they tapped a young guard, Rudy White from Arizona State University, who languished on the bench for a couple of years before disappearing.
I don't believe the Rockets have ever drafted (or picked up) anyone straight out of high school. The only players I can think of to be a Rocket who originally went from high school straight to the NBA : Bill Willoughby Moses Malone Gerald Green Jackie Butler
As much crap as everybody gives him, when he was good and healthy, he was very good. Wish we had the 22 year old version of him now
I don't think Yao even went to high school. He joined Shanghai Sharks Junior team at the age of 13. He did go to some sports school. Don't know if that counts as high school education...
The 1st 3 players to enter the draft straight out of high school were Darrell Dawkins, Moses Malone & Bill Willoughby. At 1 point 2 of them played for the Rockets. Of course I was hoping they could get Dawkins too.
