I don't know what the hell is up with this suburban town in Germany...fireworks is obviously legal... this sounds like Beirut under assault. It is only 9pm now. My sweetie has been hyperventilating for 2 hours already. And to think I was looking forward to going to a dinner party. We came home at 6pm on the train and "bombs" were going off on the left and right. I couldn't walk her 5 blocks home...she would go one way and get scared and turn the other way...then she just gave up and sat down shivering. I had to get a taxi to take me 5 blocks home. It is only getting worse now I'm actually thinking of getting another taxi to go to my office were maybe the bombs are not exploding around her.
One time our dog took off on the 4th of July because of fireworks and got so scared running that she cut up the pads on his feet, had to go to the vet. Dogs and fireworks don't mix......not sure what you can do about it....sorry for your troubles... DD
Even the fearless Wonder Dog became freaked out by fireworks. It used to be that he would care less (he really cares less now, since he's been dead for 20 years), but at Paleface Park on Travis, during one of our tribal gatherings, someone had the bright idea to light bottle rockets and toss them in the air. It was a miracle someone's eye wasn't put out. One swooshed straight over to the Wonder Dog, exploded, and ruined his fireworks complacency forever. After that, when the fireworks began, he'd head right for my lap, all 50 pounds of him. I feel for your beastie, HP, but you should just lock him up and go to your dinner party. It won't kill him.
Did you get your edit feature taken away, too? My dogs don't get too freaked out, luckily. We live near an amusement park that is always having fireworks displays.
Yep, long ago, I hope that Clutch somehow finds it in his heart to give me editing and thread starting back, I was never a big thread starting guy to begin with, my problem is thread derailing. I don't think there is anything you can do other than just let your dog tough it out...unfortunatly. DD
I gave up and got a taxi to work. We are chilling to iTunes radio, on a better sound system that what I have in my apt---which wasn't good enough. The bombs now sound like percussion. She stopped hyperventilating. Guess I'm spending the night here. But, it is a faster internet connection for watching the Rockets, tonight. Oh, and the great thing about this German office...we are stocked with beer, wine and liquor....haha...and i have a key to everything.
Dude, go out...it is what 10pm there? Get out and enjoy the New Year, watch the Rockets later...you are far too old, this could be your last new year... DD
My dog hate fireworks. And on top of that this year she is also sick (some stomach problems, nothing serious but she has been vomating regularly). So I spend last night in the living room with the dog. We just play loud music, and keep the shades closed, and that seems to make her relax a bit more. 2 years ago she was shaking of fear during new years eve, this year it is going much better.
Just went outside at midnight. This is crazy vs the US. The whole city smells like gun powder...smoke in the air like fog. And this is just amateur fireworks. everywhere e v e r y w h e r e not to say I have anything against it. but I just wish I would have known beforehand.
Fireworks have been going off here since last night. They are even worse today. My neighbors apparently love firecrackers and something that sounds even louder (M80s?). One of my dogs is scared ****less, three of them don't care and one wants to kill the fireworks (and probably the person blowing them up). I love that dog.
do not take your dog to China around Chinese NYE then. it'll probably be like WWIII around that time.
Sounds like the dog needs a thunder shirt. http://www.thundershirt.com/lpc2/?gclid=CLHHt67Gra0CFW-HtgodBUoPIQ
