My front door lock broke in the lock position. The key will turn the door like normal, but it stays in the locked position. My brother in-law came over to help me out, but decided against my advice, and started to tear the lock apart. Pretty much all that is left in the door is the bolt, which is stuck in the lock position, and I can't get it out of the jamb. Any tricks from anyone to get the lock unstuck (it's doing its job:grin, or am I going to have to call a locksmith?
There isn't a kind of slider (for lack of a better word) in or around the bolt itself that has a hole for a screwdriver or a similar object? I've installed a few deadbolts and when deinstalling the old one, I was able to stick a screwdriver into a little slot and pull it out (obligatory Swoly - That's what she said).
So now you've been snubbed by a door. Post a pic of what you're talking about. Not that I can help, but I'm curious.
Door mechanisms aren't too complicated. Like DoD said, post a pic and we can probably walk you through it.
Try putting flat head screw driver under door latch and hitting it with hammer upward. Source: http://www.doityourself.com/forum/residential-commercial-security-locks-keys-dead-bolts/336826-deadbolt-stuck-set-plate.html
