[rquoter]HOUSTON - With the Houston Rockets opening the 2011-2012 regular season tonight against the San Antonio Spurs, Leslie Alexander begins his 19th season as owner of the franchise.

    ...

He acknowledged that it is hard to believe nearly two decades have passed since he bought the club.

"Yes, it's very hard," Alexander said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "It's a long time in your life.

    "When I bought the team I was 50. I'll be 69 soon. It's a long, long time."

Alexander remembers when he bought the team, the rumors around town were he would own the club for a few years and then flip it to make a quick profit.

19 years later those rumors have long since vanished.

"They kept on saying it. Maybe it's not true," Alexander laughed.

In fact, Alexander cannot foresee any scenario that would cause him to sell his franchise.

"No, it's like a Picasso," Alexander said. "You don't want to really sell a Picasso, so no."

Alexander likes the addition of center Samuel Dalembert, who signed a two-year contract with the Rockets.

However, he doesn't really know what to expect from this year's Rockets.

"It's too early to tell," Alexander said. "I think Dalembert coming on is a big improvement.

"We finally have a center who can block shots. The team is basically the same as last year, except for a couple of rookies. We'll see how it progresses. It's way too early.

"I'm from Missouri this time around," Alexander said. "Show me."[/rquoter]

He's saying owning a team is special. Not something you want to part with.

Personally, I think Les is a good owner. He ain't Cuban/Buss good but he is that second tier of owners. Heck of a lot better than having Sterling as your owner.

I will hold judgement on Cuban ever being better until he wins his second Championship.

Les shrugged it off like a boss and negotiated the 2nd pick of the 2012 lotto as compensation.

I posted this during the lockout. A very good article by one of my favorite writers, Malcom Gladwell...author of "Tipping Point." This was posted at Bill Simmons ESPN e-magazine.

    http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6874079/psychic-benefits-nba-lockout

He mentions exactly what Alexander said. Owning a franchise is more like owning a priceless work of art than it is like owning a business. Forbes magazine even did a study to show that the purchase price of franchise versus a market valuation prior to the sell is a 20% difference, which is very similar to the purchase price of a priceless masterpiece in an auction...they often go well over the valuation.

Le$ is frightened to death at the thought of possibly having to cough up $50k in fines for actually acting as the leader of this organization and saying out loud what the fans deserve to hear
