DURANT REALLY WANTED SHANE BATTIER In his first game back in Memphis since Game 6 of the second round of the playoffs, Durant admitted that his lobbying last month for former Grizzlies forward Shane Battier was real. “I was dead serious,” said Durant, who used Twitter in late November to attempt to recruit Battier. “I wanted him since last year, after we beat them in the playoffs. I was telling a few of the guys, ‘Shane would be a good fit here for us.' He was a guy I was looking forward to playing with, but Miami jumped in and took him.” Durant said he understood why Battier chose to sign with the Heat. “Let's be real,” Durant said. “Guys like LeBron (James) and D-Wade and (Chris) Bosh, they're lobbying for you as well. And it was me and Nazr Mohammed and Nick Collison lobbying for him. And you look at the names there, you look at Miami, the weather and just that whole aura around those guys and of course he's going to pick them. But it's a decision that he made for him and his family. You can't really be upset about it. “Shane's an unbelievable player, a great teammate from what I've heard. I wish him the best. If he would have come here it would have been perfect for us.” http://newsok.com/thunder-notebook-...th-kevin-durant/article/3635701#ixzz1hut1K0Ux
Unlikely, he played most of his game as a Grizzlies, started with them and last year lead their team from the 8th seed team into the 2nd Round... I still have hope he might play for Rockets again but it would be awhile :sigh:
Lol. Number 1 Shane Battier fan. For a Player that sucks so much, the elite players in the league sure do want him.
Unlike some team, neither the Heat nor the Thunder were going waste a lottery pick on him. Each of the teams has their nucleus set and they were getting him for what he is worth and asking him to fill the role he is supposed to be filling. Also please remind me what the the Rockets got back in return for Shane.
I think some of you are missing the point here. Kwame always trolls around saying Shane is useless, Carl just points out an article which has one of the league's best players practically worshiping Shane. The Rockets made their mistake of trading the 8th for him, sure. But the fact remains, players and teams see value in Shane when fools like Kwame do not.
What does he have to be upset about? We treated him well, sent him to his old team, a playoff team at that. I'm a huge Shane fan, have both a Rockets and Duke jersey of him, but he wasn't a fit on this team anymore and is in the PERFECT situation now. If you asked him honestly I bet you he would have no ill feelings towards anyone. But he would never tell you either, he's the ultimate diplomat, has to be if he wants to be commish one day.
Lol, it's always great when I get my own thread. I'm glad I'm on my people's minds. This is why Durant doesn't make personnel decisions, because they already have Battier's European stepson on the team in Thabo Sefelosha (you know the guy Westbrook was yelling at for passing up a wide-open shot). What makes this thread even more pathetic is that Battier is riding the bench for the Heat. He gets to have a front row seat as he rides the coattails of Bosh, Lebron, Wade, and even the rookie Norris Cole. Why are guys like James Jones and an unknown rookie contributing more to the Heat's success than Battier? It's painfully obvious to anyone with an ounce of objectivity that neither the Thunder nor the Heat need this scrub as indicated by both of their undefeated records thus far. Just check out Battier's last game for the Heat: 20 mins, 0 pts, -11 Lol, the "no-stats all-star" has now become Shane "the ring chaser" Battier
