Had the chance to check this out during before Christmas and it's pretty good and damn cheap too. So I brought in a 3D glasses that I took from the theater to Futureshop(equivalent to BestBuy) since I knew mostly they will either have a broken ones or non lying around to to demo their 3D. The 3D images are vibrant and bright unlike the active 3D TV glasses that are a little dim and does have a little weird feeling to your eyes on certain TV. The LG passive 3D doesn't have any eye strain effect what so ever and having an affordable passive 3D glasses is a freaking bonus unlike having to spend $200+ for the fragile active 3D glasses. The converting from 2D to 3D is pretty good too. Only problem right now is that they say it's half the resolution of the active 3D tv but I didn't really have the chance to check out other movie demo. So hopefully by next year they will have more choice to choose from. Check it out if you come across it. I think it's going around $1600 for their 55'' 55LW5600. <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/HaMqR_cY9g8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
LG TV's are good IMO. All of my TV's are Samsung but I do have a nice 42inch LG that has a gorgeous display. However, stay away from LG phones lol.
Before you purchase an LCD, consider a plasma. Here is a thread discussing plasma tv's: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=212617 Also, please consider buying something other than a 3D tv. I can't imagine anything worse than the future of television being as nausiating as 3D, but then again that may be a good thing.
I wouldn't say to buy this as your main TV but as a secondary TV it's a bargain and great for the kids and family. I already own a 60" Sony LED so a cheap passive 3D version for a second tv is a damn good buy if you want to try out 3D without breaking the bank.
Their 84" 4K passive TV. http://www.pcworld.com/article/247096/lg_to_showcase_84inch_3d_hdtv_at_2012_ces.html
I agree with 3D being a relative non-add at the moment, and not a necessity, but it is included anyways on most high end tvs these days. That being the case, some comments. 1. Active 3D glasses prices have come way down. The ones I'm looking at from Samsung are like $35. 2. I didn't spend hours, but I spent time on both active and passive in Best Buy, and found the active 3D to be much more realistic. just my opinion, though.
Got active 3d in living room, looks better than the passive. But, i always have problems with it. The 3d shuts off if i move just a little to the left or right, or if i'm too high or too low...doesn't work either. Have to move the couch directly to the middle of the room just to watch without problems. Also, there's mostly kids movies in 3d. This time next year should be a good time to get a 3d tv with a lot more 3d movies being out.
I have one of these TVs (55LW6500). I also spent time testing out both active and passive 3D at Best Buty and yea, the passive looked better. But I felt like I got a good deal for the LG, $1300 and 10 3d glasses versus $1900+ for a passive tv with no glasses. After setting up my tv and calibrating it, the 3D on my LG looks just as good as those "1080p to each eye" sets. My LG looks way better than the LG display at Best Buy. The potato cod demo at Best Buy is what sold me on this TV. I bought the movie "Imax Under the Sea" and everytime I show it to people they reach and try to touch the fish! Or some, like my sister, turn away. It's too funny
