NEW YORK -- Utah Jazz forward Karl Malone has been fined $7,500 and suspended one game without pay for backhanding Christian Laettner of the Dallas Mavericks in the face.

Stu Jackson, NBA senior vice president, announced the league's action Wednesday.

The slapping occurred with 6:56 remaining in the first period of Dallas' 107-98 victory Monday night in Salt Lake City.

Malone was scheduled to miss Wednesday night's game against the Denver Nuggets.

I know the Nuggets fans here are jumping up with joy right now.

Oh man, if anybody could point me to a video of this on the web, I'd appreciate it. Laettner getting backhanded is something I'd like to see. [IMG]

I saw it. It was actually an elbow or forearm. He elbowed him once, and when he didn't move Karla went for his head. Very dirty play (what else is new) They called a T on him but should have thrown him out also.

    Laettner was totally frustrating him.

Don't worry if you missed it, Malone does it on a game basis. Just catch his next game for live update.

Malone walks a tighter line between "aggressive play" and "criminal acts" more than any NBA player I have ever seen.
