That ship has sailed. Morey couldn't get Nene so he won't want Gasol anymore ans sure as hell wouldn't pay what he did before.
People say that Dwight wont come to Houston because A) It's not L.A/Miami/NY B) There isn't another superstar to play alongside To answer point B, having 2 superstars can be even more of a problem, Id go as far as saying Lowry and Dwight could create something special in Houston for years to come with the right pieces around them. As for point A, has anyone outright asked Dwight if he'd play in Houston? Until they do, it's conjecture to say he wouldn't.
At this point, I think Atlanta would trade Joe Johnson's massive contract for a bag of chips. They now realize what most people knew last year: that's the worst contract in the NBA. As for the Rockets "facilitating" Dwight to the Lakers, it's not like Orlando wouldn't just take Pau and Bynum and then flip one of them to another team for additional assets. At least this way, the Rockets get a legit star. Not as enticing as a Pau-Nene combo, but it's at least something to make this team better defensively and down low.
The two proposals from a Laker's standpoing are uncomparable. With Paul, they were only losing one "star" in Gasol and a reserve Odom. So in essence, they would still have 3 "stars" with CP3, Kobe, and Bynum. In the proposed with Dwight, they would be losing 2 "stars" Gasol and Bynum for one "mega star" Dwight. Kobe, CP3, Bynum>>Kobe, Hedo, Dwight Dwight is better than Bynum and will forever be better than Bynum, but that dropoff in talent isn't close to the dropoff of CP3 to Hedo. So it's not the same song with different words.
I agree. And if you could get him for just Scola and KMart without giving up anything else, then we've still got a lot of pieces go around him and Lowry or possibly Deron Williams if he sees the opportunity here. Lowry Lee Morris or Chase Dally Pau with Patterson, Chase, Goran, TWill off the bench.
Valid point...but now they could take on turks contract with the exception from odom trade...thats a big deal. They could also get back more players then they were in original trade. Say big baby....to man the 4...or even scola. There is plenty of ways to work this...but I think if morey can pull off... Kevin Martin, Scola, draft picks and....hill or dalembert and dragic for howard he should do it...and then bet he can sell dwight and dwill on joining forces with our young core. Reason howard wants to play for the nets is because dwill is there...but what else...if we trade for howard and then have a good team left over from the trade and the cap space to offer max deal to dwight...i think we take the chance. And if that is our plan lowry would be the main piece going to orlando....
I suppose we could deal Lowry, get Dwight, go to the lottery, sign DWill outright, then draft Barnes in the lottery??? Wouldn't that be nice??
Man we aren't going to rent Dwight, he's not going to sign an extension here.... Dwight likes NJ because of Deron and the fact that they are moving to Brooklyn and Jay Z is part of the ownership. Carmelo left Denver and expanded his brand/image in NY and is probably making tons more money in other avenues than Basketball. Hell La La is on every reality show... It sucks and I hate it's guts, but these things matter. It will never be the case in Houston. The only way we get a star here longterm is if we draft them, they are a foreigner and don't know the difference, or we moneyball several trades and become a 3rd party facilitator, like the proposed. Kevin Durant's are rare breeds, and I would much rather draft a young player to be the face of the franchise, but I don't think that's the direction, it's unfortunate.
Sure take a shot, we have too many players already, we need a two or three for one deal to clear playing time up for the kids. DD
Then does the NBA really still hold your interest? I mean, honestly..if that's what it becomes...is that compelling to you?
See people are missing the point with acquiring a star player ... It's bigger than their skill set and what they could bring to the team as far as wins are concerned ... Although that is very important, the presence of having a star player on a team is priceless ... And so is respect around the league. Not having any national televised games except for maybe NBA TV I don't think is satisfying Les Alexanders ego
If you were Orlando, would you rather have 1. Jameer/JRich/Ebanks/Bynum/Pau plus Redick, Glen Davis, Ryan Anderson, etc. on the bench or 2. Jameer/Kmart/Ebanks/Bynum/Scola plus JRich, Redick, Glen Davis, Ryan Anderson, etc. on the bench or 3. Jameer/Kmart/Marcus Morris/Dally/Scola plus Patterson, Goran, Glen Davis, Ryan Anderson on the bench or 4. Jameer/JRich/Joe Johnson/Horford/Ryan Anderson with Redick, Glen Davis, Ryan Anderson etc. on the bench
The Nets not being able to trade for Dwight could be huge for the Rockets as far as "renting Dwight" is concerned. There aren't any other superstars for D. Williams to team up with in New Jersey ... The only reason the Nets were on Dwights list is because of Williams ... Renting Dwight and a simple exchange of text messages between Dwight and Williams could potentially end up great for the Rockets ... long shot though.
doesn't really matter if we're on it. If we trade for him, he has to decide if he wants to walk away from the extra money. He can still be extended and traded. It's not a total risk trade if he doesn't want to stay here. But we get a chance to convince him he wants to stay here before we move him on to where he wants to go. And the bottom line is would the trade to get him out of here yield as much talent as we gave up to get him here. I think it would be pretty close since we have the cap space besides and we are mired in mediocrity.
Lowry does. Scola does. Marcus Morris does. Patterson does. Dally does. Lee does. TWill does. Budinger does. Nobody = Lowry/Scola/Morris/Patterson/Lee/Budinger/Dally/Dragic
