Final Fantasy 7, my favorite by far, a musical masterpiece. Street Fighter 2, one of my complaints with the new one, they should have revamped the old school themes instead of the bogus remixes. Sonic the Hedgehog 1&2, maybe its nostalgia, but i find myself listening to green hill zone on youtube fairly frequently <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/SF9ZLNxHaBY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Got it on my PS3, 20 years later still holds up.

This. I'm not a big Halo fan in general, but both the OST and the sound effects for the first game are amazing. I do like the FF7 and Chrono Cross OSTs on the RPG end of things. Streets of Rage 2 music is great as well. I also really love the music for all the King's Field games, but I'm hopelessly biased when it comes to that series. Total nostalgia trip. King's Field OSTs

Donkey Kong Country 2 and Final Fantasy VI are still pretty widely recognized 2 of the best soundtracks in video game history. Love them both (DKC2 is insanely good for a game of its genre). Lots of info on them in the vid you can check out while listening.
I have said a lot about this topic in the past, so I won't talk too much about it now... However, all things considered, I'd way that Chrono Trigger is probably the best overall soundtrack. I also really like Star Ocean 2. Theme of Nede is arguably the best overworld theme (it's a toss up between that and the FF6 overworld theme (I.e. Terra). Also, Theme of Rena will certainly be playing at my wedding at some point.

The music from ninja gaiden 1 &2 are the best video game music ive ever heard. Also some silent hill music is pretty good.
