Sorry, I didn't check current NBA rosters. I just named 10 Rockets or former Rockets that are worse defenders and didn't check if they made a roster this year. 3 of that list aren't in the NBA currently due to being worse defenders.

Yep, if you are 7'3 and are supposed to be a defensive specialist, but can't make the active list on the Rockets ... that is pretty telling.

That's the issue with Martin, he's a very one dimensional player, if he's not scorin then he's contributing nothing.

On the flip side, if he is scoring, then he's extremely useful.

Here's a thought. Take out Budinger from last night's game and substitute Andrei Kirilenko in your mind. What happens????

Our defense improves dramatically and our offense doesn't give up anything. Kirilenko is just as effective on offensive threat as Chase is.

If you're gonna run Martin out there, you have to have a guy like Kirilenko at the 3 to cover up Martin's defensive deficiencies. You cannot have another Martin part II (Chase) at the 3 contributing to the hole that already exists defensively at the 2. Most of the time, they're playing side by side. And if I were the opposition coach, I would direct my players to get in sets that stack Martin and Chase defensively and then play cat and mouse out there with them all game long. It's our Achilles heal and it is very easily exposed.

And to think that at one point our back court was Brooks and Martin. That could be the worst back court in NBA history.

Yup. They were scoring 50 and giving up 60 all by themselves.

I would argue that Amare, Bibby, Calderon, David Lee, Ellis and Hedo (off the top of my head are as bad as Martin).........

Still, Martin is a bad defender. When the Rockets traded or him it was not as big a deal because 7'6" Yao was the center.... now, it is a real issue... I suspect Morey will deal him before the deadline, especially if we are sub .500% by the deadline.

I build a list of 'IMO' (for the two positions) - the rankings of starting SGs and SFs for their overall defense (speed, agility, size, steals, blocks, rebounds, clutch blocks/steals, how well they work with the teams defense - usually just looking at how good their team's defense is and working from there).

    SGs.

I really struggled to build a case for Bud. He is just terrible. There are likely 10 worse defenders, but they don't get playing time on any team let alone start. His body is built badly for NBA 'Starting Quality' defense for starters, but then hes got that amazing leap and doesn't get barely any rebounds per 48? On top of that he is NOT consistent in offense, but does give good energy. Should be getting 18 minutes tops off the bench I would have thought.

Is Twill the answer? Morris? Not really any convincing answer for me.

Martin, well he doesn't care. He does get steals by playing 'risky defense' which usually hurts more than helps, but atleast he is swooping down the other end just in case he can get 2 easy points. Well anyway, he's not that bad at all considering hes top 10 offensive player (usually, not lately).

    Your ranking was awesome.

Though, I think Ginobili and Kobe are a little high, still in the top 5 to 7. Affalo and Sefolosha should be higher, if we are talking strictly defense, but they are simply specialist. But Affalo, is turning into a nice offensive weapon for the Nuggets on the perimeter.

SF list is untouchable, though Durant's defense is good, I think there are some better defensive forwards down the list, not that many. Thing is those players are aging, while Durant is only hitting the surface of his prime. So, he could be 6th or higher by the end of this season.

    Interesting.

However, there is absolutely no way that Raja Bell, Joe Johnson, Chauncey Billups, Laundry Fields, Rip Hamilton, and Jodie Meeks are worse defenders than Martin. I'll let you slide by on Ben Gordon, Anthony Parker, and Anthony Morrow. Although personally I'd rather have any of them defensively over Kevin Martin too.

It's not only that Kevin Martin is an atrocious defender, he does not care that much any more......Guy is becoming a wuss and that is to be worried about

Budinger was the worst out there last night and he's arguably the worst at his position. Turkoglu was abusing Chase at will.

I remember Chase was getting absolutely torched by a third-string player in garbage time last season.

I think Monta is a bad defender but he might look better in the new system.

    The OP is right though.

I used to always say that we can't win with AB and Martin starting in the backcourt. We didn't realize how detrimental Budinger and Martin could be without Chuck Hayes.

Dalembert being able to play 35 minutes plus is going to be big for this team.

Most of my rankings comes over the past 2 seasons. Right now he looks more like sitting at the end with Morrow.

Morrow is definitely the worst NBA defender.
